Small reminders to give your body some love. It does a lot for us and we should appreciate it on a daily basis.
A few simple reasons to love your body…
It miraculously heals itself without your prompting.
It helps us smell wonderful things like cinnamon, coffee, and freshly baked peanut butter cookies.
It allows you to squeeze the hand of friend in need and gently hold the hand of a lover.
It knows how to keep you cool in the summer and how to conserve energy and heat in the winter.
It tells you when it’s time to eat and when it’s time to stop.
It allows you to feel the satisfaction and release of a big sneeze.
It lets you feel the warmth of a hot drink sliding down your throat.
It keeps you upright, it keeps you moving forward, it (literally) keeps your head on straight.
It pushes you to feel the burn of a deep squat and the rush of relief when you release it.
It lets you feel weightless while swimming and steadies you while walking on sand.
It quickens your breath while running and speeds your heart during a moment of excitement.
It allows you to feel emotion, it lets you empathize, and it makes your blood rush to your head in fits of anger.
It alerts you when you’re hurt by allowing you to feel pain and it can amazingly bounce back after being sick.
It gives you a voice to be heard and ears to listen.
It fills you with energy when you’re gas tank is on E and keeps you going far past the point it should be pushed.
It gives you the capacity to love, to feel passion, and to want more for yourself and others.
It allows you to bend, twist, stretch, and grow.
It gives you space to be in the world and reasons to take up more of it.
It lets you experience the crunch of a freshly picked apple and the softness of a still-warm piece of bread from the oven.
It allows you to produce life.
It gives your thoughts a home and your mind a place to explore.
It keeps you ALIVE.
And it’s the only one you have.
In fact, it’s the most important thing you’ll ever own.
Body love doesn’t happen in an instance or overnight. And maybe “body love” shouldn’t be the goal. It’s a lifelong, back and forth struggle between your head and your heart….but it’s POSSIBLE to at least appreciate and acknowledge your body for all it does for you. Honor and respect your body as you would a friend. Treat it with kindness, gentleness, and grace. Value it beyond its physicality and strive to nourish its spirit and soul.

What the Numbers Don’t Tell You
Tell me one thing you love about your body and one thing you appreciate your body for!

I liked the format of this article, I liked the topic, I liked your unique ideas you brought up…basically you just killed it. And it’s all so true! I’m always telling my fiance I wish he’d respect his body a bit more (he eats A LOT more junk food and hardly ever works out…yet still manages to look like he works out. Crazy) because I love and care for him. He’s gotten so much better over the 4 years we’ve been together though because I can tell he WANTS to care more about his body. And it means so much to me.
Thank you Kaylin! I think you’re probably a very positive influence on your fiance! 🙂
It is so important to treat yourself with kindness and to love the body that you were given. Thank you for all of these simple reminders!
Thank you for reading! 🙂
Great post. Its a wonderful reminder of all the amazing things our bodies do. Funny how we take most of these things for granted.
Thank you Sam. I agree!
Great points there! It’s a good reminder 🙂

Thank Lennae!
….for remaining strong for 45 years.
That is certainly something to be proud of! 🙂
This is beautiful!!! We often love many things but our body is not always one of them. Why? I love that my body allows me to go for a walk. Just as simple as that, that I have two legs that move forwards and backwards, up and down. We often want to run faster or lift heavier but we faul to notice the basics. 😉
I LOVE THAT! Simple really is best. Our bodies do so much, so it’s important to be thankful for the little things.
Beautiful Kaila. I love your unique approach to this topic… yes, our bodies are miraculous in so many ways that we take for granted.
Thank you so much Kristen!
This is SO well written, and beautifully done Kaila, I think we forget how miraculous and our bodies are at times, how we are so much more than a six pack, a big bicep, or thick thighs. We need to LOVE all of ourselves, and it isn’t always easy, bt it’s worth it. I LOVE my smile, and my collar bones and how good I feel about myself with no makeup on 🙂
Thank you so much Amber!
What a great reminder! Too often we focus on the imperfections of our bodies but our bodies are truly a gift. When my son was born I was reminded that each life and body really is a miracle!
Thanks Elizabeth! Children always have a way of putting things in perspective.
Reading through your list, is such a good reminder that our bodies are miracles! Such a easy thing to skip over being grateful for our body, but it’s one of the most important things in our lives! Loved this!
Thanks Lisa! It really is so easy to take our bodies for granted.
The best list of reminders – EVER!!! 🙂
Thanks Gigi. I’ll be referring back to it often!
This is so inspiring! Thanks!
Welcome! Thanks for stopping by!
I love this, and it’s so very true! Lots of great reminders (especially the one on giving us emotion and letting us empathize! :]
This is such a thoughtful post Kaila! We do take our bodies for granted way too much – it’s nice to get a reminder.
Thanks for taking the time to read it Alisa!!
I love my body because I gave birth to you!
Aww shucks! Love ya mom! 🙂
I agree that there are so many reasons to love one’s body. If you take care of it, it will take care of you. I know that it sounds like a cliche, but taking care of one’s body really does allow one to live life fully.
I completely agree. Thank you for your comment!
Our bodies are pretty amazing aren’t they. Hopping by from SITS.
Thanks for stopping by!!

[…] Self hate is present when it’s serving a need for you. For some people it’s protective…a coping mechanism perhaps. People feel if they pick on themselves and focus on their flaws it will be taken off the table for others to do it to them. As if they have to acknowledge how bad they are before anyone else has the chance to do it. This inhibits you from realizing your true potential, learning all you can about yourself, and building intimate relationships with others. When you don’t love yourself, you don’t open yourself up for love from others and can’t form deep, vulnerable relationships. […]
