Fruity, fresh, and flavorful! These Hawaiian Tuna Burgers are full of clean, lean protein and bursting with tropical flavor. Gluten-free, paleo, and low in fat, these patties will become your new go-to whenever a burger craving strikes.
Is anyone else totally sick of winter?
Yeah, me too. So much in fact that I am already planning several warm-weather escapes for after I graduate! Now all I need it to win the lottery to pay for them all. A girl can dream, right?
But luckily for us, the ‘ol groundhog didn’t see his shadow to apparently we should be expecting an early spring! I am all for that.
In the meantime, though, I am reminding myself of sunny, warm times by making recipes that remind me of the tropics! Fresh, fruity, and full of flavor. First on my menu if it was summertime, right now? That would be these Hawaiian Tuna Burgers!
I thought up this recipe when dreaming about a fresh fruit and fish dish I had in the Philippines a few years back. Fresh tuna, juicy ripe pineapple, and the most incredible sesame and soy marinade. Pure bliss on a plate.
I wanted to mimic those flavors but make the whole thing a lot simpler and easy to make. Burgers seemed just right and since I didn’t want to break the bank by buying fresh tuna pieces, I went with the next best thing….canned white albacore tuna! As close to the sea as you’ll get in a can!
I’ve been a Bumble Bee seafood consumer for years and am always so impressed with the quality, convenience, and affordability of their products. You’d think the fish was canned right on the boat with how fresh it tastes!
I knew I wanted to go with white albacore for this recipe since it has a clean, light flavor and is FULL of lean protein and healthy fats. These burgers weren’t just going to taste good…I was determined to make them nutrient-packed powerhouse patties! (Say that 3 times fast!)
PrintHawaiian Tuna Burgers
- Prep Time: 10 mins
- Cook Time: 35 mins
- Total Time: 45 mins
- Yield: 4 burgers 1x
- Category: Main Meals
Ingredients
- 2 cans of Bumble Bee® Solid White Albacore Tuna
- 1 tbsp Bragg’s liquid aminos (or soy sauce)
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp red chili flakes
- 1 8oz can of crushed pineapple, well drained
- 1/2 cup loosely packed chopped cilantro
- 4 tbsp almond meal/almond flour
- 1 egg (or 2 egg whites)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1/2 tbsp lime juice
- salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400. Mix all ingredients in a bowl (use your hands to make sure everything is evenly distributed). Divide the mixture into 4 portions and shape into patties. Squeeze out excess liquid as you form the patties with your hands. Place the patties on a parchment paper lined baking sheet or dish. Bake for 25 minutes, flip bake for 10 more minutes.
Gluten-free, paleo-friendly, and absolutely delicious. I swear even people who claim they don’t like seafood will LOVE these burgers. They could convert even the staunchest of fish haters with their sweet n’ savory flavor. The Bumble Bee White Albacore doesn’t taste fishy it at all and it’s got most amazing meaty texture!
Maybe I’m a bit biased as a seafood aficionado (self-proclaimed of course! 😉 ), but these burgers are the BOMB. I feel like I develop a new obsession with each new recipe I create, but I know these will for sure be a regular appearance on my weekly menu. Now I just can’t wait for warmer weather so I can throw them on the grill!
The ultimate tropical escape in burger form…I like.

I love seafood! I’ve had salmon burgers before, but tuna burgers sound pretty fantastic, too 🙂 Love the summery flavors!
I love salmon burgers too! Pretty much any seafood in burger form I love! LOL
We made these tonight, mine fell apart. I don’t know what the trick is but they literally fell apart and are like soupy. Keep cooking them to try and get them to firm up but it is a no go. I spent a lot of money to make these and they are going in the garbage. I hope others have good luck with theirs.
Did you follow the directions and squeeze out the liquid from the patties before baking them?
Just made these tonight and Loved them! Thought they were going to be too wet but they crisped up perfectly. Thanks so much for the new fave!!

I could eat crickets, as long as there was pineapple on ’em. But I’ll take these tuna burgers instead. Love this creative and fun recipe! Looks so tasty and juicy!!
Bahahaha! I actually HAVE eaten crickets! They’re actually not that bad!! 🙂
Love the sound of these tuna & pineapple burgers – I’m going to give these a whirl. Might work moulding into balls – like meatballs – and serve on spaghetti. My children are meatball mad and not keen on burgers – so I often like to try new flavours ?
I think they would definitely work as meatballs! Maybe with a spicy thai peanut sauce and noodles!
These look like my kind of burger!! I’m definitely making these for an easy and yummy dinner this week. 🙂 Gorgeous photos, Kaila!! <3

Hey Kaila – I appreciate you sharing this on Healthy Vegan Fridays, but it’s most definitely not vegan 🙁 I had to take it down. I know you are always so good about carefully posting your vegan recipes and am thinking this was an oversight.
Thanks for your continued recipe sharing. Have a great weekend!
Yes! Total oversight on my part! I am so sorry and I hope this doesn’t affect my future participation in the link up! 🙁
Of course it won’t! You are one of my star participants =D
Oooh these sound so good and a healthier alternative to beef burgers. Thank you for sharing with #CookBlogShare x
Yes! Great alternative for Lent! 🙂
These look absolutely delicious. I love tuna, and always choose Bumblebee. But I’ve never thought to make them like this, similar to a crab cake. I bet they taste extra delicious on the grill, saving this recipe to try as soon as we can fire up the charcoal.
Yes definitely crab cake-like…but BETTER!!!
Nice, Kaila. I’m loving all the healthy ingredients.
Thanks Barbara!

OMG! Thank you so much! I am honored! Can’t wait to check it out.
hey! any idea why they stick to the parchment paper before the flip? any trick to make them come off easier? thanks so much!
★★★★★
Not sure! They didn’t stick to mind! Could be the brand you used or potentially that you didn’t squeeze out enough liquid from them when forming them! Sorry about that. 🙁
I started eating “clean” about a month ago… This is by far our families FAV recipe! We made it for dinner last night and my children cleaned their plates.. My 4 year old said “Mommmmyyyy make more chicken!!” lol and my oldest son snuck in the kitchen and ate the last burger.. Mommy and Kid Approved!

I am very interested in making these, but how do you suggest they be served? On a bun like a “traditional” burger, with some sort of condiment, or what about sides that would pair well? Thanks so much!
You could definitely serve them on a bun, on a salad, or on their own! They go great with avocado! Serve them with some homemade sweet potato fries and roasted veggies! 🙂

SO looking forward to making these! Do you suggest anything for a “drizzle” or aioli? Trying to stay away from carbs, so no bun for me! Debating whether to use lettuce as a bun or over a salad.
