Want to accomplish a life long goal AND help people in need at the same time? Then the Run 10 Feed 10 nationwide racing series is for you! Train for a 10K in one of the best cities in the country or as a fun run all on your own.
Believe it or not, I haven’t been running much this summer. In fact, I only plan on getting back into running when I get home from my trip. Instead I’ve been cycling, walking, strength training, and just giving my body a break overall.
Even though I wasn’t training for anything specific, running is HARD on the body. I felt like mine needed a break…so I gave it one.
Sure I was afraid I’d fall out of love with running, lose all my fitness, and never want to go back to it. Heck, I even transferred my bib to someone else in the half marathon I was going to run in May. So you can tell, my break was serious.
I only wanted to start running again if my body felt right and my mind felt like it. That time has (thankfully) come, and I am going to start back very slowly.
Yes I probably have lost a lot of my endurance, but I also gained a new love for cycling, doing easier workouts, and just being outside rather than worrying about distance and time.
Running is HARD. It’s always hard. But it’s especially hard when you’ve taken so long of a break. I know I’ll be able to feel every run all over my body. But that’s not a bad thing! I’ll sort of love it. I am looking forward to feeling like I am being challenged again, like I’m breathing hard, and like I am able to be alone with my thoughts.
Another reason, I’ve decided to start back up (again, SLOWLY) is because as I announced a few weeks back, I have been chosen as a Women’s Health Action Hero for the second year in a row!
I couldn’t be more excited to work with this awesome, inspiring group of ladies again! Promoting healthy living all around the country is something that I want to do forever and this program facilitates that in so many ways.
Along with the title, I am of course an ambassador for this year’s Run 10 Feed 10 nationwide race series. I wrote all about last year’s events here, but if you’re unfamiliar, let me explain a bit about what it is.
Run 10 Feed 10 is a yearly event put on by WH in an effort to end domestic hunger through running, camaraderie, and women’s empowerment. You can run 10K in one of the cities where events are being held or train for your own fun run.
When you register, you instantly provide 10 meals to people going hungry in your local community, plus you’ll get a limited-edition FEED bag! Win-win for everyone involved.
This is the perfect way for me to get back into running in a slow and steady manner. Sure, 10k used to be no big deal for me, but now it will actually take some real training to work up to.
So what am I telling you all of this for? Well, I want YOU to train with me! Whether you register and train for one of the races or decide to run on your own terms (and on your own timeline), you’ll be able to set an awesome goal for yourself to accomplish this year while helping those in need at the same time.
Join Team Healthy Helper here! If you’re not a runner but still feel like contributing to the cause, you can donate to the fundraiser here. I would so appreciate your support in any way possible and know you can help me reach my goal of getting 100 people registered and raising at least $100 dollars.
And guess what! I have a special discount code for anyone who registers from the Healthy Helper community: WHPROULX
Thank you in advance for all your support as I get back into running and take on my role as a 2016 Women’s Action Hero. So honored to be representing the Healthy Helper community in this position!
See you all tomorrow for one last post before I’m off to Europe!!! 🙂
