I think this week should simply be named PEANUT BUTTER WEEK on the blog. 🙂 If you’re down…I’m down.
We started the week with a BANG by creating the ULTIMATE Peanut Butter Lovers’ Recipe Roundup. In case you missed it, there are tons of sweet AND savory recipes in that post to satisfy any peanut butter craving you may have.
Today, the peanut butter love continues since it’s National Peanut Butter Lover’s Day! Seems fitting that this day falls within National Peanut Month, right?
You KNOW I am a peanut butter lover myself…and from what I know about you all, you are too! In my last post, we settled the debate over Team CHUNKY or Team SMOOTH. Well today, we’re gonna figure out what the best flavor pairings with peanut butter are. I actually did a whole post on my favorite foods to pair with peanut butter, believe it or not!
Some of the most popular things to pair with peanut butter include…
All good…but we’re focusing on the BEST ones today. Or at least the best in my opinion….chocolate & banana with peanut butter! Otherwise known as the Chunky Monkey flavor pairing.
I’ve known about this fantastic flavor combo for years now, but when I started writing this post, I became curious as to how this amazing food advent came to be. I did some research but couldn’t find much. I think the name itself was coined by Ben and Jerry’s with their Chunky Monkey Ice Cream flavor….but even that isn’t quite right since that pint involves walnuts instead of peanuts. Let’s face it peanuts>walnuts any day.
But I still want to know! So if you or anyone you know can enlighten me on the origin of Chunky Monkey, please comment on this post! I mean we all know Elvis coined the peanut butter, banana, and bacon combo…but who is the GENIUS behind chocolate, peanut butter, and banana!? THE WORLD NEEDS TO KNOW.
Until then, I’ll just keep making Chunky Monkey flavored recipes as an ode to the unknown creator of this magical combo. Starting with DONUTS.

These deliciously soft n’ fluffy donuts are gluten-free, high protein, low in carbs, and bursting with Chunky Monkey goodness. Seriously friends, I’d argue that chocolate, peanut butter, and banana is one of, if not THE, best baked good flavor on Earth. I mean who can argue with rich chocolate, sweet bananas, and salty peanut butter all together!? The only thing that makes this recipe 10x better is that it’s all those wonderful flavors in DONUT form.
Enough talking. Just make these. And definitely do it THIS month to properly celebrate National Peanut Month and National Peanut Butter Lovers’ Day!

OK, so I used to make 100’s of donuts from scratch everyday for a long time, so i never want to make another donut again. BUT these look amazing and so much healthier than the fried and sugar coated ones I sold! Maybe Ill just make them in a different shape, call them little cakes and then I can enjoy without early morning donut making memories getting in the way of my enjoyment!
Haha I don’t think I could EVER get sick of making donuts!
OF COURSE you would make something this delicious – because it’s YOU! YOU always make deliciousness!!! 😀

These are SO good.
These sound perfect for us gluten-free people, but what if you are not only gluten-intolerant but dairy sensitive? What would you substitute for the whey protein? I’d really like to make these for my grandkids, but could I use rice protein or….??
Unfortunately, plant based protein powders wouldn’t work in this recipe! I am so sorry!
