Nutty, apple-filled, and delicious! This gluten-free, vegan loaf is awesome for munching as snack time or serving at breakfast. Refined sugar-free and made with wholesome, all natural ingredients.
It’s time again for another dive into the archives! Another trip in time back to simpler blogging times when my pictures were bad and my grammar was even worse. 😉
That’s right, friends…it’s RECIPE REMAKE time! I am especially excited to be bringing back this recipe from the past because it’s totally delicious yet has had little attention since its original posting date almond 4 years ago.
I created this recipe right before my sister moved into her new house with her then fiance (now hubby!) as a housewarming present for the two of them! Nothing says ‘welcome home!’ like a fresh loaf of perfectly baked bread. Especially sweet bread!
That’s where my Nutty Apple CRUNCH Loaf comes in! Chockfull of peanut butter goodness, fresh apple flavor, and loads of wholesome, yet easy to find ingredients that make it perfect for a weekend baking activity. It’s ULTRA kid-friendly too! I mean, who doesn’t love peanut butter and apples together?! It’s a quintessential food combination and it’s even better in bread form! Just like Oprah, we all LOVE bread. 😉 Curse me for linking to that horrid commercial!
The original recipe was not gluten-free or vegan, but upon remaking it this week, I made a few simple changes to make it more appropriate for everyone to eat! We aren’t diet intolerant around here, folks. Whatever lifestyle you follow, Healthy Helper has something for you!
I also seem to remember the original post celebrating the opening of the first ever Trader Joes in Buffalo. Here we are 4 years later and the TJ’s obsession is still going strong. Joe, you own my wallet.
Okay, okay. Enough chit-chat about the past. Lets LIVE IN THE PRESENT and get to this delicious throwback recipe!
Nutty Apple Loaf
- Prep Time: 10 mins
- Cook Time: 55 mins
- Total Time: 1 hour 5 mins
- Yield: 1 loaf 1x
- Category: Sweet Snacks
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup peanut butter
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- 1/4 cup coconut sugar
- 1.5 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
- 1/4 cup almond milk
- 1 tbsp Bob’s Red Mill Egg Replacer + 2 tbsp water, let sit for 1 minute to thicken
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1.5 cups Bob’s Red Mill 1-1 Gluten-Free Flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut flakes
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 small apple, cored and chopped
- 1/4 cup walnuts or peanuts, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a loaf pan with parchment paper or cooking spray.
- Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl and combine all wet ingredients in medium bowl.
- Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Fold in apples and walnuts.
- Pour mixture into loaf pan and bake at 350 for 55 minutes. Cool for about 20 mins before slicing and serving.
Easy to make, no yeast or rising required, and perfectly appropriate for this time of year, this loaf will have your family begging for more! When I made it for my sister and her husband it was gone in two days. Think you can beat that?
Also, I suggest serving it warm with extra peanut butter slathered on top! The more pb the better, am I right?
Here’s to edible presents, better food photography, and as Oprah would say “BREAD”!
What’s your favorite type of quick-bread? I love pumpkin loaf!
Have you ever made your family or friends a homemade housewarming gift?
If you’re a blogger, what’s one thing you wish you could change about your old posts? For me, grammar and spelling! Eeeep. So bad. And let’s not talk about the pictures either!

I’m ridiculously obsessed with Trader Joe’s. I do about 90% of my grocery shopping there, since it’s the closest grocery store to my apartment.
My favorite sweet bread is definitely banana, especially warmed up with salted butter on it. Perfection.
Favorite bread is either pumpkin or banana, but both must have tons of cinnamon!
Aww, I bet you are SO happy to have your sister back in NY and right by you! I know I was soo excited when my brother moved back home, too. It’s just a GOOD feeling 🙂
I love Trader Joes, but don’t go there too often as I want to buy everything!!
I have just put some banana bread in the oven, I want to make some pumpkin bread too this week
A TJ just opened near you!? Jealous. Send us some of their light coconut milk, will ya? 😉 We drove over an hour to basically stock up on just that and they only had one can left… Grr.
Hello! I’m loving all of the ingredients in your nutty loaf! Think it would work with almond flour in place of the wheat? (feel free to groan internally… I hate substitution questions too. Haha. It’s more of a rhetorical question 🙂 ). Maybe part almond and part coconut. Either way, looks great!
YAY! Trader Joe’s is my lifesaver. No joke. I don’t know if I could live without it. I just love that I can get so much amazing, high-quality stuff for so cheap! I literally spend half of what I would if I got the same products at Whole Foods.
That nutty loaf looks so yummy!
I’m beyond jealous you have a Trader Joe’s! Colorado still has zero stores, and we were supposed to get a few earlier this year, so I’m hoping they open soon before I possibly move away. I just love that they have a lot of the same stuff as my fav Whole Foods but for way less.
I love either banana or pumpkin bread, but both are definitely better with some dark chocolate added in! I don’t make bread often though because I have the worst luck with baking–nothing ever rises, even when I follow high altitude directions.
This looks so delicious! I love the peanut butter apple combo but would never think to turn it into a bread!

I <3 TJ. I get everything but my produce from there!
That’s exciting you have a TJ’s now!
I’m going to be Robin (as in Batman and Robin). My friend Dan is training to run a Halloween 5K with me dressed as Batman and originally I was going to be a penguin (my costume from last year – head to toe). I walked into a costume place and they had a whole superhero wall so I decided I liked the Robin stuff so much I was going to do that and surprise him. He still thinks I’m going to be a penguin (as far as I know).
Haha! What if your partner showed up as a penguin to surprise YOU?! That would be hilarious!
Oh that would be too funny!!
Ohhhh cut me up a slice! Looks fab!

Is there supposed to be a total of 1/2 cup of coconut sugar in this loaf or just 1/4 cup total? The 1/4 cup of coconut sugar is listed twice in the ingredients. Thanks!
1/4 cup! Sorry about that!
Ooh wow this is studded with such delicious flavor. It looks so good Kaila!
Thanks Emily!!

Always love a good nut loaf and Peanut Butter is one of my favorite ingredients. : )
This is so yummy for the holidays!
It’s so chock full of good stuff and delicious flavors I just want to grab a fork and dive right in! With the extra PB as suggested of course, because apples + pb (+ bread form!!) = heaven 🙂
RIGHT?! Nothing better than peanut butter and apples together. PS: you could totally use oat flour for this! LOL I know it’s your fave!
Yum! Pb and apples? Yes, please! Like you, pumpkin is my favorite type of sweet bread. I live about half a mile from the original Trader Joe’s. I’m there so often I think I know the store better than some of the employees ?
Oh that’s awesome!! I’d love to visit the ORIGINAL Tj’s!!
