Why These Cottage Cheese Cookies Went Viral
- Naturally higher in protein
- No added sugar
- Gluten-free ingredients
- Soft, pillowy texture
- Easy one-bowl recipe
- Perfect balance of indulgent and nourishing
The cottage cheese doesn’t make them taste cheesy at all. Instead, it creates ultra-soft cookies that stay moist for days.

Ingredients:
- 1 cup cottage cheese (low-fat works best)
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/2 cup sugar-free sweetener (I used NuNaturals! Code HEALTHYHELPER saves $$!)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- 2 cups almond flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup sugar-free dark chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional but delish)
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment or a silicone mat.
- Toss the cottage cheese, applesauce, sweetener, vanilla, and egg into a bowl. Use a hand mixer (or blender if you’re fancy) until smooth and creamy.
- Whisk together almond flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
- Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet, stirring until just combined. Don’t overmix; we want soft, fluffy cookies, not tough ones.
- Stir in chocolate chips and nuts if you’re using them.
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto your baking sheet. Give them some room to breathe, 2 inches apart works.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden at the edges and set in the center. Let cool before devouring (or don’t, I won’t judge).

Why Cottage Cheese Works in Cookies
Cottage cheese acts like a secret baking hack. When blended smooth, it adds:
- moisture without excess fat
- natural protein
- a soft, fluffy crumb
- longer-lasting freshness
It’s basically the reason these cookies taste bakery-soft while still being made with better-for-you ingredients.
Storage Tips
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days
- Refrigerate for up to 1 week for best freshness
- Freeze for up to 2 months
They’re especially good slightly warmed, so the chocolate chips get melty again.

When to Enjoy These Cookies
Perfect for:
- high-protein snacks
- healthier desserts
- afternoon sweet cravings
- post-workout treats
- meal prep baking
Basically, proof that viral recipes can actually live up to the hype.

Not sure what went wrong but my cookies came out very flimsy and fell apart, maybe too moist?
Cooked for about 17 minutes and still did not crisp up at all.
Tasted okay but would have liked them more crispy.
Thanks for giving them a try! Could be the brand of cottage cheese you used…some are more “dry” than others. I use Good Culture!
that was probably it, the cottage cheese was pretty wet along with the apple sauce.
Will have to try with dryer cottage cheeses.
Thanks
No problem! You can always put the cottage cheese in a paper towel and squeeze out some the liquid as well!
How many cookies does this make?
Hey there! Scoop about 1.5 tbsps of dough per cookie…you’ll get about 16-20 cookies!
Hello!! I did use good culture but my cookies ended flat but I must say the flavor took me to space. I want to remake, in hopes they turn out like yours. Crossing finger
Thank you for trying them!! 🙂
