Just a little update on how the ol’ shin injury is treating me…
-I never realized how much our shins are involved in EVERY move we make! Jeeeze…every thing I do, whether its walking, jumping, climbing stairs, or just sitting and moving my leg, I can feel the injury! Never knew shins were so important.
-In case you’re wondering, I haven’t gone to a legit doctor yet to actually diagnose my injury. I know, I know…bad Kaila, right?! But to tell ya the truth, I HATE GOING TO THE DOCTORS. I pretty much know how to handle injuries and I just feel like the doctor couldn’t really tell me any new info. Plus my mom’s a nurse so she knows what’s up!
-The looser I get my shin, by keeping it warm and keeping it moving, the better it feels. School is killer because I am sitting for most of the day which gives it time to tighten up. That’s when the pain is the worst!
-I have been trying to make my workouts creative…but adapting my normal routine is difficult! I use my legs so much so its hard to modify a lot of the stuff I usually do. I’ve been focusing more on upper body stuff, weight training, and as little heavy impact as possible! The elliptical, the bike, workouts DVD’s and I have become goooood friends.
[Muh new best fraaaaaand]
-With that said…the elliptical and the bike don’t hurt! Yipeeeee!
[cause everyone’s hair looks that perfect when they’re working out…right!?! ]
-I am nervous I’m going to lose all my endurance with this injury I am trying to maintain it with cross training but I can feel its not the same. I already feel like my aerobic capacity isn’t where it usually is. But hey! I guess its something I’ll have to accept. I can always build up my base again….it’ll just take time, determination, and patience. I (hopefully!) have many years of running ahead of me!
-I am starting to get that antsy feeling. My shin is feeling a bit better and as I said it feels better the more I move it (within reason of course)…if that makes sense? So I keep feeling that sense of euphoria like “hmmm maybe I could try this or push it a little more…or even run!?” But I KNOW I shouldn’t! Even if the pain subsides a little…any pain is bad pain and ups my risk for reinjuring myself. I have really had to use a lot of will power to not do the things I really want to!
–Rest days rock! I took one yesterday (and as you all know I LOVE my workouts!) and today my legs felt SO fresh! I always feel like if I take a lot of rest days, that I’ll get out of my routine and get stuck in a non-workout rut…but that is not the case at all! I got to today and looked forward to my workout ALL day! It’s nice to know that I don’t have to force myself to workout…my body just naturally craves it!!!!
[yes, to all of the above!]
-As I mentioned yesterday, I am trying to incorporate more yoga into my life! Even if that means taking a few short stretching breaks throughout the day. And hopefully once a week I can make to an actual class…planning one for this Sunday!
Well that’s enough injury talk for one night! But I will certainly take advice! Got any info on shin injuries? Good stretches or quick healing tips (ha! I wish!)? PLEASE SHARE!
Now I am off to relaaaaax. Friday is the day of the week I am most tired…the whole week just seems to all build up and EXHAUST me!
Time for some Sex and the City reruns, blog reading (I’ve found some great new reads lately!!), and a yummy night time snack!
Enjoy your night guys and have a great weekend!
