I feel ya little guy.
The weekend could not have come soon enough this week. Definitely riding the struggle bus, folks. Schoolwork has been heavy ALL week and ‘work’ work has been even more stressful! My brain is fried to say the least. I also think I have a chronic headache….stress maybe? We all have these types of weeks though! Just gotta keep pushing through. 🙂
Well aside from busyness, things have been good with me! I want to thank you all so much for your amazing words of kindness and support on my personal post earlier this week. Every comment really meant so much to me and only reaffirmed in my eyes that my family made the right choice! Other than that, the blog has been pretty NUTTY this week! White Chocolate Peanut Butter Bites on Monday followed by Three Ingredient Flourless Pumpkin Cookies (made with nut butter) on Wednesday. It’s healthy dessert heaven up in here!
And if all those recipe posts haven’t been food-filled enough for you this week, than today’s post will certainly fill the quota. It’s time for another Foods of the Moment post! This one is pretty random, but it has a nice mix of sauces, spreads, dips, and SNACKS that I’ve recently discovered! Read on for the good stuff…
Windy City Organics is a one stop shop for amazing raw, organic health food products! They produce brands such as Dastony and Sunbiotics and are known for their high quality, carefully chosen ingredients. I was fortunate enough to receive a few of their Dastony Stone Ground Nut Butters as well as some of their Sunbiotics products to try out!
Being the nut butter lover I am, I opened up all three jars immediately for a little tasting session. (Probably not the best idea seeing as I have about 6 jars open right now!) Brazil nut butter is TOTALLY new to me. I’ve only actually had real brazil nuts once or twice in my life. Weird, because I know how nutritionally dense they are…full of selenium! The butter is made only from raw brazil nuts and it has a mild, creamy, nutty taste. It reminded me of a cross between almonds and coconut! Delicious in other words. 🙂 Next up was the Sprouted Almond Butter. I’ve had all kinds of almond butter but never made from sprouted almonds before. I found it to be sweeter and more grainy than traditional almond butter. I LOVED the texture. It was the perfect mixture of thin and thickness in terms of consistency. And last but not least, the Sunflower Seed Butter. I am a huge fan of sunflower seed butter in general, but have only ever had it roasted and salted (ala Sunbutter). It definitely had a less intense flavor being raw, but I enjoyed it! Sunflower seeds are quite a bit more bitter than other nuts and seeds to if you are into more mild tasting nuts/seeds you may not like this. Other than that, it was very creamy and THICK.
I was also sent Raw Probiotic Chocolates and Soaked & Sprouted Almonds. The chocolate was amazing! There was a regular and mint variety. Both extremely dark and bold tasting! I love the taste of cacao all on its own so I liked that these were rich and not overly sweet. The almonds were very unique too! Super crunchy and light in comparison to regular raw almonds and they had sort of an ashy coating on the outside. I will note they were quite a bit sweeter than regular almonds too. A nice change from what I’m used to!

I’ve been a big Oasis for many years now but I have yet to try all of their hommus flavors. Luckily they sent me a box full of them to sample! All of their hommus and dips have no added oils or preservatives. They’re also vegan and gluten-free certified! I love all the unique flavors they come in. Of course you have your staples like classic and roasted red pepper (sweet and spicy all at the same time)…but you also have unique ones like Shiitake Mushroom & Sun-dried Tomato and Mediterranean Medley. The Shiitake Sun-dried Tomato was my favorite. It tasted like garlicky pizza dip to me. The Mediterranean Medley was good as well…filled with all sorts of veggies! I love the hint of olive flavor and cumin. I also really enjoyed the lentil and black bean dips. Both were nice and salty just how I like my spreads. The black bean reminded me of refried bean dip you might find in a taco salad or 7 layer dip….but a lot healthier! Overall, everything was incredibly flavorful, smooth, creamy, and different from anything I’ve tried before.
You know I love my crunchy, salty snacks. Well, Raw Food Central has me covered with some pretty cool stuff! We’re talking RAW Onion Rings, Kale Chips, Snack Mix, and Flax Crackers. Have you ever even heard of raw onion rings before?!
I, of course, had to try those first! They were incredibly crispy and crunchy with a sweet sweet sweet onion flavor. I LOVE onions so these were right up my alley! The kale chips were perfectly light and crunchy too. They were coated with your typical cashew/nutritional yeast mixture so they tasted zesty and cheesy. The flax crackers are made from only four ingredients (flax, onions, seasoning, and salt) and I really enjoyed their simple herb-y flavor. They are pretty neutral so they’re great for dipping in hummus (see above 😉 )! Last but not least, the snack mix was a delicious combination of their kale chips, freeze-dried peas and corn, and some dried fruit! A little sweet, a little salty…a lot savory. I loved the mix of different textures and tastes. I’ve always really liked snacking on freeze-dried produce and I thought they made a nice addition to this mix. This is a great raw alternative to salty snacks like Chex Mix or even trail mix.
Margie’s is specializes in creating dressings, sauces, spreads, and syrups that are made completely from FRUIT! No added sugars, zero calorie sweeteners, or artificial ingredients! I LOVE this because as you know, I am a big fan of using real food to sweeten my recipes and baked goods. I was sent a nice sampling of their products to try out…
Raspberry Vinaigrette and Mango Herb and Garlic Dressings: Quite possibly the best raspberry dressing I’ve had because it actually tasted like real raspberries! I’ve never been a huge fan of raspberry vinaigrette because it usually tastes fake and overly sweet to me. But this stuff was great! The Mango Herb and Garlic was delicious too! The mango tasted fresh and I loved the contrast of sweet and savory flavors elements.
Banana Syrup: Move over maple, there is a new syrup in town! Seriously, this stuff is amazing. It tastes like fresh pureed bananas and I love it as an alternative to maple syrup for pancakes and baking. I’ve actually done a ton of baking with it so far including some Chocolate Banana Cupcakes, No Sugar Added Pineapple Cake Bars, and Chocolate Meyer Lemon Donuts….all recipes that are coming soon!
Guava and Mango Fruit Spreads: I love no sugar added fruit butters and jams, but I had never had ones made with tropical fruits before! I am definitely a guava lover after trying this spread. It’s slightly sweet and sour and tasted like a cross between a pear and some sort of berry. The mango spread was yummy as well! I’ve been using it on grilled cheeses and on toast.
Mango Teriyaki Sauce: This is a great marinade! It’s thick and very flavorful. Teriyaki sauces are hard to find without tons of added sugar and corn syrup, so I was really impressed with the ingredients in this product. Great sweet and salty combo! I marinated some tofu in it and baked it….so good!
