The first Foods of the Moment post of 2016 on the FIRST DAY of 2016! How exciting! We are starting the New Year off with a bang and a special celebration because I have an AWESOME giveaway for you all today.
As you know I am a BIG supporter of the company Thunderbird Bar. I’ve been a brand ambassador of theirs since the beginning and have been with them through all sorts of transitions. Their bars are some of my all time favorites and I’ve never been disappointed in any flavor of variety I’ve ever tried. From their original line to the newest additions, I honestly LOVE every single one. In fact, they are the one bar brand I always make sure to have a steady supply of on my bar shelf (Ben and his team always help me with that! 😉 ). I need my Thunderbirds, ya know!?Well, late in 2015 the company released their newly rebranded packaging and logo! It was a long time coming and I believe the packaging is now a perfect representation of everything the company stands for. Simple, whole food bars with innovative ingredients and tons of quality nutritional benefits!
They’ve moved away from their former bar names in favor of highlighting the star ingredients in each bar…organic raw fruits, nuts, and seeds. Of course, they are still gluten-free, vegan, and have no added sugar! Same great bars, just with an upgraded exterior look. If you’re interested in winning TWO variety boxes of all of their amazing flavors, stick around till the end of this post and enter to win some in my latest giveaway. This is a HUGE one so you definitely don’t want to miss out! Thunderbird bars make for the perfect healthy addition to your diet if you’re looking to start the New Year off on a well-balanced note. 🙂
You know I love baking with veggies, so of course I had to try bars that are MADE with veggies! Love Beets, who make an array of beet products (like steamed ones, juices, and snack trays), have just released a new line bars where they combine fruits and seeds with sweet juicy beets. They come in 3 flavors currently: cherry, apple, and blueberry. The bars are gluten-free, have no added sugars, and have a good amount of protein & fiber too. If you’re a beet lover, you’ll love these fruity bars! But even if you aren’t, the beet flavor isn’t too strong and it pair deliciously with the different fruit ingredients. I especially like the addition of pumpkin and sunflower seeds for some crunch throughout the soft, dense bars. Definitely a good option to sneak in some extra veggies and protein (they use a mix of whole grain brown rice and pea protein!). I love seeing cool, creative bars like this out on the market! What will they think of next?
It’s always a good day when I get my Wellness Ambassador shipment from Simply Protein…especially when it contains NEW products. Simply Protein just released a new Decadent line of bars as well as one specifically for people with different digestive issues. The Decadent line transforms their original protein bars into a dessert-like treat by adding a thick layer of delicious dark chocolate on top. I think their bars taste like rice crispy treats as it is, but with the addition of chocolate they are the ultimate healthy dessert. Right now they have two flavors: Dark Chocolate Cherry and Dark Chocolate Salted Caramel! I am partial to the caramel flavor because it has a slight peanut taste to it and the salty contrast is perfect with the sweet chocolate. My only gripe is that these aren’t BIGGER. 😉
The Digestive Specialty bars cater to those with issues such as: Ulcerative Colitis, IBD, Crohn’s or IBS & people following a low-FODMAP diet. I don’t struggle with these issues but the bars still made for tasty snacks. The Soothe line contains Psyllium fiber unlike their other bars with acts as a bulking agent for digestive regulation. The Low-FODMAP bars are wheat-free, vegan and easy to digest. They contain no ingredients that are classified as FODMAP yet still have the same great texture and flavor as Simply Protein’s classic protein bars.
I think it’s great that people with specific diseases and disorders are being accommodated by health food companies and now have some more options for quick, convenient, healthy snacks!Namas Bar is an up and coming bar company that caught my attention on Instagram. Not only do I love that there bars are vegan, gluten-free, and have no added sugar, but the company donates donate a meal to a child in need for every bar purchased. In addition, they also put funds toward yoga programs for our youth in local communities. Definitely a ‘company that cares’!
The main ingredients in their bars are: pea protein, dates, maca powder, moringa leaves, figs, amia (gooseberry), chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, and millet sprout powder. All natural, all organic. They started their bar line with a Chai Chia flavor and recently added to it with a new Almond Cacao variety! I got to try both…
Chai Chia | If you’re a chai tea fan, you will love this bar! It tastes like a sweet cup of chai tea that is perfectly brewed and not too strong. You can really taste all the spices that go into a chai mix like cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and cardamom. I love the slight coconut flavor as well!
Almond Cacao | Can’t go wrong with nuts and chocolate! This bar had a classic raw brownie flavor and tasted so rich because of all the chocolate chunks throughout. They use fairly traded organic dark chocolate chips and you can really taste the difference in their quality. There was a slight coconut flavor here as well because of the coconut oil they use. Delicious all around though!
Keep up the great work Namas!

That is so awesome! I don’t think I could ever do a tri! Terrible swimmer! No endurance for it. 🙁
I have mixed feelings about veggies in bars. I’ve never tried one though, so I would be open to trying new things. I used to be so picky, but God has worked on my tastebuds and my gratefulness, and I love trying new foods now!
I am a beet LOVER so I knew I’d like these bars to begin with…but honestly, even if you don’t like veggies, these are sweet and delicious enough to wow you! 🙂
