I am officially an AUNT!
That’s right! On March 13th, 2018 I became an aunt to my sister’s beautiful baby, Isabella Elise. We call her baby Bella for short. 😉
I am SO in love. She’s so perfect in my eyes and I just want to cuddle her all the time. Those cheeks are just so pinchable!
I am so ecstatic to finally be an aunt and to have a little niece to spoil. Funnily enough, everyone in my family thought it was going to be a boy…with the exception of my dad who swears he “knew it was a girl” from the very beginning. He won! 😉
But of course, none of us really cared about the gender, we all loved the baby from the moment we knew SHE was coming. And now that Bella is here we are just all so happy! My parents are so excited to be grandparents for the first time, too. Just call them nana and papa!
Now that my sister is breastfeeding for the first time and has her hands busy with a newborn, she requested I try my hand at making some lactation cookies for her! Of course, I couldn’t turn down that request. Anything to help her and baby B!
If you’re not familiar, lactation cookies are cookies that contain a combination of some or all of the following ingredients: oats, fenugreek, flaxseed meal, and Brewer’s yeast. They tout their milk boosting properties and are said to help mother’s maintain their milk supply as well.
The key ingredient in my Vegan Lactation Cookies is Brewer’s Yeast. Brewer’s Yeast is what’s known as a galactagogue, which increases breast milk supply, increases energy, and elevates mood. All of which are KEY for new moms.
Vegan Lactation Cookies

- Cook Time: 17 mins

- 3 large, ripe bananas, mashed
- 1 teaspoon vanilla bean powder
- 1/2 cup coconut oil, melted
- 1/2 cup natural crunchy peanut butter
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 1 cup gluten-free granola
- 2/3 cup almond meal
- 3 tablespoons brown flax seed
- 2 tbsp chia seeds
- 2 tbsp date sugar
- 4 tablespoons reduced bitterness Brewer’s yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ cup cacao nibs
- 1 cup vegan chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In a large bowl combine the bananas, vanilla, coconut oil, and peanut butter. Set aside. In another bowl whisk together the oats, granola, almond meal, flax seed, chia seeds, Brewer’s yeast, salt, and cinnamon.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until combined. Fold in the chocolate chips/chunks and cacao nibs. Drop dollops of the dough, each about 2 tablespoons in size, an inch apart, onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 16 – 18 minutes, until the oats are golden. Check them about three quarters of the way through baking time to make sure the bottoms aren’t burning.
- The cookies will be a bit more crumbly than traditional cookies so they are perfect for using as toppings for yogurt bowls, oatmeal, or smoothies.
Vegan, gluten-free, and fruit-sweetened, these lactation cookies are PACKED with nutrient dense ingredients, while still tasting delicious! Brewer’s Yeast is notoriously bitter, but in cookie form, combined with all the other tasty ingredients, it’s absolutely palatable. Cookies are a much more enjoyable way of incorporating this important supplement in your diet.
