First WIAW in a month! I am so excited to finally be sharing some food fun with you all again!
This months theme is all about sensible snacking and luckily for me I have a lot to share on the snack front! Before I went on my Philippines trip I received a ton of snack-like foods to try out! It was perfect timing because I had planned on packing snacks for my trip to make the travel more bearable and just in case I ran into some iffy food situations while abroad. Here are some of the things I packed with me…
These were so perfect for a dose of veggies when fresh foods were in short supply! As I mentioned in my recap posts, fast food is HUGE in the Philippines and people recommend not eating raw veggies or salads because the growing conditions and water used to clean the produce is not safe. So I was in serious need of some veggies! Walton Feed makes an awesome variety of freeze dried veggies and not only are they amazingly crunchy and delicious, but their flavorful too! Plus you can’t beat the nutrition and portability that comes from the fact that they are freeze dried. Such a great resource for traveling long distances. I especially enjoyed the cauliflower and sweet peas! The cauliflower tastes like popcorn to me!
I am a bar fanatic so you know I packed a bunch of bars with me for the long trip! The nice people at Nakd sent me TWO boxes of the newest addition to their awesome product line. These babies are everything that their original Nakd bars were (raw fruits and nuts with no added sweeteners), but with the addition of protein! And not just any type of protein…SOY CRISPS! So the bars have a texture like rice crispy treats! So delicious. The strawberry flavor tasted like fruit candy to me and the apple tasted like an apple pie larabar. Both were delicious additions to my travel snack stash and the added protein was much appreciated for keeping me satisfied.
These Amazing Grass bars were another great source of nutrition when I was lacking in veggies and my normal nutrient dense foods! They all have a slight ‘green’flavor to them, but it’s actually very pleasant and works well when paired with the other ingredients that flavor these bars. I mean seriously, what doesn’t taste good with chocolate or peanut butter!? The new Chocolate Chip Coconut flavor was incredible. The coconut added great texture and added so much richness to the already decadent chocolate taste. I love the size of these bars and their soft, dense texture.
Another LIFE SAVER! I have been a long time user of the chocolate Amazing Grass powder and love all the nutrients and FLAVOR it packs in such a concentrated substance. I used these powders on anything and everything while I was away….on top of oatmeal, mixed into yogurt (when I could find it!), in milk, mixed with water, and even on ice ream (that happened one time!). They were a perfect option when I hadn’t felt like I’d had any greens or really substantial foods during the day. I loved having portable, convenient sources of super foods at my finger tips! The single serve packs are one of my favorite Amazing Grass products for sure. I enjoyed trying their new Pineapple Lemongrass flavor as well. A little to lemony for my taste but all the other flavors are an A+ in my book! Even the original….the green taste isn’t overpowering and is actually sort of sweet! So awesome since it’s all natural and has no added sweeteners or flavorings!
In addition to all these snacks, I also brought nuts, instant oatmeal/cream of wheat packets, peanut flour, a few sample packs of protein powder, freeze dried edamame, raisins, freeze dried fruits, two different types of crackers, and boatload of bars! And to tell you the truth, I went through almost EVERYTHING I brought! So I am happy I went prepared. Our schedule ended up being pretty crazy and sometimes meals wouldn’t happen until hours after their scheduled time (dinners at 9 o’clock anyone?) and for someone who is used to eating every few hours, I was in desperate need of fuel sometimes! Most of the group ended up having to do a bit of grocery shopping to get snacks of their own since we were all pretty much starving all the time. 🙂
And now onto all the delicious food that has been back in my life since I’ve been home! Lots of favorites have been consumed lately. I have had major cravings.
[oranges in almond milk with protein powder and cocoa]
[apricot almond bar, crackers with laughing cow and some with humus][tortillas with laughing cow and jam, turkey salad][chocolate coconut KRONO bar][steamed brocoli, squash with laughing cow, tuna sushi]

Gaaaaah….I’m drooling just remembering all those delicious recent eats! In fact, I think I’ll get a snack right now in honor of all these eats.
Have a great hump day, friends!
