Pheeeeew! This past week has been a whirlwind. In fact, I feel like things have been crazy ever since my birthday!
Thanksgiving, then a belated birthday celebration out with the fam, and now back at school to finish up the last three weeks…my head is spinning! But in a good way.
Honestly, this is the best start to the holiday season I’ve had in years. Regrettably, the seasons of recent memory have been filled with anxiety, guilt, and not a lot of enjoyment for my family and I…mostly because of me. But this year, things are different. For the first time in a long time, I sat down and ate a REAL Thanksgiving meal with my family and our guests. No special foods, time constraints, or specifications.
I decided the holidays this year would be different and so far they have been…in all the best ways. The focus has been on family, togetherness, and creating new memories. Maybe it’s because we have a ‘fuller house‘ or maybe it’s because I’ve been really pushing myself lately. But whatever it is…it’s exciting and I hope to keep it going!
I wanted to share a few pictures from the past week’s festivities before getting into today’s WIAW (which will actually be a WIA on Thanksgiving!). First up Thanksgiving…
The table beautifully decorated by my mom! A few of the sides: Raw Cranberry Relish & Roasted Pie Pumpkin with Pears. The TURKEY (turned out amazing!), classic mashed potatoes, and my family’s traditional stuffing.
Other food that went unpictured: pureed winter squash, harissa roasted brussels sprouts, apple-orange cranberry sauce, and gravy of course! My grandma’s (TWO) pumpkin pies with homemade whip were for dessert.
In addition to Thanksgiving, we also had a little belated 21st birthday celebration for me since we weren’t able to properly celebrate on the actual day! We chose a place that we all could agree on and get to. PF Changs never disappoints! Especially when they set you up with a free bottle of wine and the most amazing pad thai I’ve ever had. It had tofu, chicken, AND shrimp in it. So good and I actually recreated it at home a few days later!
All in all it was a busy, but fun week and weekend. Lots of work, but a ton of play too! Grateful for these moments and for embracing the true meaning of the season. 🙂
