[I have a fun giveaway going on Instagram! Check it out!]
Did you miss me? I only ask because a lot of you thought I didn’t participate in WIAW last week. My post was not allowed in the link up despite being done in the style I’ve used almost since the beginning…a giveaway (or recipe or product review) coupled with some of my eats from the past week.
Recently, Jenn has wanted to take back WIAW to its original intent…a full day of eats. I see no problem with this as the link up was getting clogged with a lot of posts that were not even food related! She’s started moderating the link up and I really appreciate that extra time and effort she’s putting into do this. Last week a different blogger hosted and there must have been some confusion because I wasn’t allowed in. Jenn has always approved my posts though since the moderation started, so I wasn’t sure what had happened.
When WIAW first started, I participated right from the beginning and used to do the traditional full day of eats. After a few weeks though, I realized that only showing one day of eats was a recipe for comparison, judgement, and criticism. One day is only a snap shot of someones diet and you can’t compare yourself and your nutritional needs based on what someone else eats on a given day. To make WIAW a no pressure zone, I started to show ‘recent eats’ instead. This seemed to work great and allowed me to share a greater variety of the foods I enjoy. Plus it gave me an outlet to share the food pics I take throughout the week since I don’t typically do ‘daily meal posts’ everyday.
Everyone seemed fine with this and you all gave me great feedback that you loved seeing my recent eats in one central post each week! Unfortunately, this is going to have to change do to the new requirements. I’m sort of torn on what to do. But here’s what I’m thinking…
I still want to participate in the WIAW party each week because I’ve been there since the beginning and really like the concept that Jenn came up with! I’m a little hesitant to go back to posting a full day because I think it can foster a negative environment. But after talking it through with Jenn (she is just so awesome, isn’t she?!) I think I’ll try for the next few weeks is to show a full day and also supplement that with some other food pics from the week, product reviews, and giveaways. This way you’re all seeing one day but also more of the fun eats I enjoy throughout the week. Sound good?
Well, we’ll try it and see how it goes!
Hoooookay, enough talking let’s get to some food! It is WIAW after all.

Today’s Healthy Help: Cleaned the kitchen floors!
Never too early to start Lending a {Healthy} Hand for this week’s round-up! Tell me what you’ve done to help someone else lately!
I always enjoy your recent eats posts as well, but I do understand where Jenn is coming from. I think you came to a great compromise to make both parties happy and still show recent eats without just showing one day! I agree, my eats vary from day to day and it’s weird to just think of showing one day as “typical”. Anyways…isn’t the cashewmilk AWESOME?! It’s my newfound love. For anything. Especially for using it to make my oatmeal bowls. 🙂
OMG YES…the cashew milk is SO good. I can’t believe how creamy it is! And it has such a great, natural sweetness to it!
I’m pretty sure WIAW is just picturres if food, nOt necessarily all the food you eat in one day? Is that the requirement, that you show everything you eat in one day?
The requirement now is that you have to show a full day of eats.
Im a words woman so IM not a WIAW woman.
BUT? I appear to be the minority these days.
I love that you defy the status quo and do things differently! And I always LOVE reading yours words. 🙂
Can I be honest? I think a lot of people do abuse link-ups. This isn’t meant to be mean to you, but I’ve seen you link up four or five posts to one link-up at a time, and I think that’s just blatant self-promotion and kind of abuses the concept (like Amanda’s Sunday post.) I think WIAW should just be food, but I also think that if comparison and criticism go along with it, you just shouldn’t participate. I know I don’t read a lot of them because of that, so it’s obviously a personal choice. But I think link-up abuse is really a big turn-off. It should be to build community and not really just pimp out your blog (not you personally, but in general.)
Amanda’s is one of the few link ups where I feature multiple posts because thats the whole point of it LOL. To feature your favorite posts from the week and to share with others who may not be familiar with your blog! 🙂
You meals look really healthy and balanced. It’s great to see healthier food which actually looks appetising as well!
Thanks Lisa!
I think maybe it was because of the no Giveaways portion of that blogger’s credentials for WIAW last week…I think you may have had a giveaway associated with that post?
I often pair giveaways of new fun food products with my WIAW posts though! Never was a problem before 🙂
Understood, but perhaps there was an assumption that you were only about promoting your own blog. Unfair perhaps, but possible?
Maybe, but I see other linking up their own posts and sharing multiple posts at a time. So it seems weird to be singled out…
I just started doing WIAW, and I really enjoy photographing a whole day of eats – it’s good to see what I’m putting in my body each day!

Welcome to the party! 🙂
I follow you on twitter! 😉 What great meals you make! Yum!
Thanks Marissa!
I’m a big proponent of WIAW and while I wasn’t involved in moderating posts last week, I think the idea is to focus on a full day of food, as opposed to random meals from the week. I think that’s a lot of what has been happening over the past couple years and part of the reason why WIAW is getting a makeover via blog hops. The moderation piece takes a lot time and work and it can be so tricky what to accept or not. Unfortunately the posts submitted are not always black or white so it’s tough.
I understand your reasoning about a day of eats being triggering For me personally though, I find a whole day of food to be more enjoyable and especially realistic. While it’s nice to showcase our great meals, new recipes or good pics, sometimes toast for breakfast or cereal for dinner happens. We get to see that stuff in a day of eats, and it makes me relate to the blogger more. Also I don’t necessarily like or have the time to cook three square meals from scratch every day and sharing a full day of food can teach us how others tackle that same issue. When other meals get tossed in there, it can muddy the waters for me.
I totally understand that moderating takes a lot of time and effort. What I didn’t understand though was why some people who showed ‘recent eats’ as opposed to a full day, were let in but I was not. It just seemed like there was a double standard. But no worries. I can definitely see why people like to see a full day so I am willing to try this format out and see how it works! Again, thanks for hosting this week! 🙂
This is my first time on your blog, (i think!) as I found you through the WIAW linkup. That orange chocolate power bowl has me so interested! It sounds delicious. Orange + chocolate is one of my favorite flavor combinations, but I have trouble finding ways to make it actually happen… if that makes sense, a haha.
As I am blogging about my journey to recovery from an eating disorder, I think showing a full day of eats is something I need to be careful of. Given the audience I write to, I would never want to trigger anyone into thinking that what I eat is what they should eat. However, with that said, I do showcase truthfully how I eat, and that includes both the unhealthy and the healthy. So that means 2,500-3,000 calories a day that includes both salads and ice cream. 🙂
I am so happy you stopped by Julia! I love your blog and following you on social media! I think you’re making such amazing progress and you have a lot of be proud of. I agree, it’s hard to determine whether it’s good or harmful to share a full day of eats. Every one is affected so differently by it so you never know! Oh and I have lots of fun idea on how to eat orange and chocolate together! Let me know if you want any suggestions! 🙂
(Easier said than done but) I think you should not care what others think! You know yourself :D.
Everything looks amazing to me as usual. I’ve beed desperate to know what’s in your sardine salad, canned sardines = under-rated. And also if you made those chicken thighs?
Xxx
Thank you so much Sarah! I will share my sardine salad recipe soon! It’s super easy. Those chicken thighs were a recipe from Clean Eating Magazine…they turned out so well!
I like this a lot better than your posts previously.. to be honest before it felt like big picture/food overload and the layout NOW is much more coherent
Thanks for the feedback! Glad you like the new style!
When I first started blogging I thought the full day of food was strange too, but now I really love sharing it and seeing others. Like Meghan said above, it’s interesting to see how people manage their meals and snacks with schedules, and I find that with my own, some sort of theme emerges from the day. And as bloggers, people will judge us regardless anyway, I like the authenticity in WIAW.
That’s true! You can’t please everyone! 🙂
Mmmm, this was a bad idea – everything looks so delicious…that peaches mug cake sounds magical. Where do you get peach butter?
I got it at my local grocery store in the natural section! So good.
