to share my love of fitness and health
to have an outlet for creativity, passion, and fun
to release my emotions
to quench my thirst to write and share
to pour myself into something I take pride in
to experiment and grow as a person
to vent
to celebrate the people I love
to learn more about photography and see my photos improve
to document important moments in my life
to connect with brands I believe in
to expand my horizons and discover new hobbies
for support and encouragement
for that late night email from a reader saying they could really relate to my latest post
for the kind words of someone who’s said I’ve helped them in some way
to spill my heart and post something I feel might actually help someone
to keep me accountable to my goals
to keep me focused and hungry for more
to know that I’ve brightened someone’s day
to hear that I’ve touched someone’s heart or got them thinking about something new
for a comment from a new reader exclaiming their excitement about finding my blog
for the message from a stranger across the world saying they can identify with my struggles
for the times when people come up to me in public and say they read my blog
for the person who feels less alone because of what I’ve shared
to show that fitness can be fun
to spread the importance of helping others
to inspire others to live healthfully
to liven up your kitchens with delicious food and creative recipes
to promote body love and break down the standards that society sets
to exude the importance of prioritizing self acceptance
to connect with people who share my values and interests
to make friends and important relationships
to foster discussion and debate
to challenge my creativity
to create resources for other people to change their lives
to learn about new perspectives and challenge my own beliefs
to help other bloggers
to gain knowledge about topics I would never have thought to explore
For me. For you. For community.
One the eve of my FIVE YEAR blogiversary I thought it would be nice to share a little about my motivation behind this blog. 🙂
I often get asked about my blogging story or why I blog. Especially from people who aren’t familiar with the blog world. Sometimes it can be hard to understand why someone would put themselves out their publicly….for ridicule, for criticism, for judgement. But for me, the positive aspects of blogging far outweigh and negative repercussions I’ve experienced.
I’ve truly met some of the most important people in my life through blogging. I’ve discovered my true voice. I’ve realized that writing is my true passion. Not just writing about health and fitness, but writing in general. I love sharing with people and I know that I need to incorporate writing into my future career somehow.
I’ve learned what it feels like to experience rejection and I’ve learned what it feels like when you achieve a major success. I’ve learned proper business practices and how to present myself in a professional way.
But aside from this, I’ve gained insight from all of you. You keep me accountable, you keep me honest, and you give me the inspiration that I crave on a daily basis to keep going for my dreams. And to me, that is invaluable. So no matter if 3 people read my blog or 300,000, I am proud of the little space I’ve carved out here on the internet and I am so thankful that you’re along for the ride with me.
I often get questions from people looking to start their own blog and I can say my number one piece of advice would be to invest in SELF HOSTING. You have so much more control over every aspect of your blog, and although the process can seem a little confusing, it’s so worth it! At the beginning of the year, I switched hosting companies and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I was having major technical issues with my old platform, but after signing up with Host Gator, I’ve experienced nothing but smooth waters.
Host Gator offers 24/7 live support via chat, phone, and email and their waiting times aren’t bad at all! I’ve never had trouble getting through and that’s awesome when you’re stressing out about blog problems. You can buy your desired domain right from them and they even have website builder tools to help with design needs. If you use WordPress like me, they also have a handy 1-click WordPress install method that makes it super easy to transfer your files without much work on your part at all. Aside from that they’re super accommodating in every aspect and have even offered to help simplify confusing marketing techniques like SEO and PPC for me. Lord knows I’m not a tech/behind-the-scenes expert! So that is really helpful.
For a limited time, Host Gator is offering my readers a special 30% discount on their services if you’d like to set up a website for yourself! Go here for the all the info and for help with any of your blogging needs!

Today’s Healthy Help: Did some meal prep for my parents for this week since they’re really busy!
Never too early to start Lending a {Healthy} Hand for next week’s round-up! Tell me what you’ve done to help someone else lately!
I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.
I struggle to see how anyone could have anything but positive thoughts & feelings towards your blog TBH.
And you are such a talented writer, I hope you feel confident in your abilites ( cos you should!).
That is so nice of you to say, Sarah! Thank you so much! 🙂
Yes!! I share all of your reasons. I have been blogging only for a little but now I can’t see myself not doing it. I also would love to add writing to my career. I just feel happy and safe when I write. 🙂
I would LOVE to write for my future career!
I started my blog as a kind of online scrapbook of my fitness journey and then it turned into so much more 🙂
Mine transformed from what I initially intended to! Love seeing all the changes!
CATHARSIS
CATHARSIS
CATHARSIS 🙂
YES YES YES.
Great post! It reminded me why I blog, I always go back and forth on quitting but somehow I always get back to it! xo C
Same here. Sometimes it’s rough! But I’m always called back!
Yes, great reasons! I remember when I started my blog I think was around the same time you started yours, and it has been so fun watching your blog grow and being on this journey with you! Never stop sharing your voice!
Thank you so much Kelly! I appreciate you being here for the ride!
I love this post! I get a lot of “Why did you decide to do a blog..?” and I think all the reasons that you gave are my own! I need an ‘elevator speech’ to kind of have ready for all these reasons, so I am not caught off guard feeling like defending myself!
I think you do have great posts, and ideas, and I for one, really like seeing your blog!
Best~
Thank you so much Barrie! I appreciate you reading!
Great reasons! To me writing is cathartic and I love sharing my life experiences with others. Looking to inspire, motivate, and lift spirits out there in the real world.
Yes! Writing is so cathartic.
To LEARN (this is HUGE!), to connect, and to INSPIRE. These really resonated 🙂
Thank you Meredith! Glad you could relate.
Yes to all those reasons for me too! Happy blogiversary!
Thanks Betsy!!
Great article, I love it! I have just been blogging for a few months and a lot of my motivations are the same. I can’t believe how much I ma enjoying it and I really look forward to learning something new to better my blog practices. Great to find your blog through #brilliantblogposts 🙂
Thanks for stopping by Gretta! 🙂
Happy 5th birthday 🙂
You have so many great reasons to blog, many of which I share, great post.
Thank you Ashley!!
Great post Kaila, it’s always nice to hear why other people blog. I love writing too and it’s through blogging that I’ve been able to express myself. Blogging has opened doors (and my eyes) to things I never thought possible. As a stay-at-home mum I thought that’s what I’d always do but it turns out I can be more! #AllAboutYou
Thank you so much Morgan! I agree. Blogging has opened me up to so much more potential!
My blog is with host gator too. I’ve been blogging for almost three years, and love it, I don’t think I’ll be stopping any time soon.
Same here! 🙂
I can relate to a lot on your list. In the beginning I wasn’t sure why or what I was doing but now I’m so passionate about it and enjoy it so much x
Yes! It’s become a true passion of mine as well!
Blogging is amazing. The positives outweigh the negatives ten-fold. People who don’t blog don’t have an appreciation for the motivation and work that goes into blogging. The time it takes to create one blog post is sometimes ridiculous, but you just feel compelled to do it. I adore blogging and wish I had more time to do so. It is an amazing medium for venting your ideas and thoughts.
Keep going!

Yes exactly!! People outside of the blog world find it hard to understand, but it’s so worth it. All the effort, all the time…it makes me feel so accomplished and good. 🙂
I am a new blogger and I love it! I love to share what I am doing and connecting with others. Starting up my blog has been onoe of the best things I have done. xx
I agree! It’s one of the best choices I’ve ever made!
These are all wonderful reasons! I love to find out why other bloggers decide to blog (and continue blogging) I think I need to make a list like this sometime in the near future to share with my readers. Thank you!
Thanks for stopping by Rose!
