A fun guide to using peanut flour…one of the most popular health foods on the market today! Get creative with these unique suggestions for incorporating this high protein ingredient into your everyday life.
You KNOW I had to bring you another peanutty post for National Peanut Butter Lovers Month! This one is focused on peanut butter’s lesser known cousin…peanut FLOUR.
Peanut flour is one of those foods that’s become ALL THE RAGE over the past few years. It first became very popular in the blog world, and now it’s gone pretty main stream. Jif even has its own version!
I see peanut flour varieties all the time at grocery stores nowadays. There are a ton of different brands, roasts, and even flavors.
I’ve always been a fan of peanut flour as a topping, for use in baking, or just to add some extra peanut flavor to my meals and snacks. Sure, it’s no replacement for actual nut butter. But I like to think of it as being in a category all its own. It’s a high protein ingredient with a great peanut taste that’s nice to have on hand in your kitchen. Also, it’s pretty healthy too if you get the varieties without added sugars or sweeteners. My favorite brands are:
Since we’re on the topic of peanut flour, I thought I’d share my Top 5 Uses for Peanut Flour! Some people are confused about what it is and what to do with it, so hopefully this list of ideas will clear things up. 😉
Peanut flour is gluten-free, high in protein, and full of delicious peanut-y flavor of course…so it makes for a great alternative flour for baking. I myself, have used it for mug cakes, muffins, and I especially love it in banana bread (peanut + banana = delicious!). Check out my Peanut Flour Chocolate Banana Bread here! It has a dense, cakey texture and pairs so well with fruit flavors or chocolate. Like I said thought, it is gluten-free and more absorbent than regular flour so you may need to adjust liquid amounts or use it in conjunction with another flour when baking with it.
Mixed with nut butter-
I love using peanut flour to make my nut butter servings go even further. I mix it with a tbsp of water and tbsp of nut butter to make an uber creamy dip that has a lot more volume than just a measly serving of nut butter. Plus the dip is a lot more creamy and smooth than thick like a scoop of nut butter on its own. The PERFECT consistency for dipping fruits, carrots, celery, pretzels, or dates!
As a topping-
For oatmeal, for cereal, or my favorite….on YOGURT! You get that awesome peanut taste (that goes so well with plain greek yogurt) and the powdery texture is the perfect contrast to the creamy yogurt. My favorite combo is plain greek yogurt, peanut flour, and chocolate covered cacao nibs…it’s like a dark chocolate Reeses cup in my mouth!
Take your typical green smoothie to the next level with a few tablespoons of peanut flour! Not only can you up the protein content (and thus make it more satisfying!) without adding protein powder, but also you add that peanut buttery taste without having the actual butter stuck to the sides of the blender. We’ve ALL been there, am I right?! My favorite combo is a simple blend of frozen spinach, frozen bananas, peanut flour, non-dairy milk, and turmeric.
In a peanut sauce or dip-
I often get asked about the peanut sauce I make for my homemade spring rolls and Thai peanut salmon noodle dishes. Well, it’s time I share the (super simple!) recipe. Peanut flour MAKES this sauce and it is so flavorful. You’d think you’re getting a fancy peanut sauce from an authentic Asian restaurant. All you do is combine 1 tbsp peanut flour, 1/2 tsp Bragg’s liquid aminos (or soy sauce), 1/2 tsp Thai red chili paste, and 1 tbsp water. Mix and pour over the food of your choice! Salty, spicy, and so peanut-y! You can also use it to make my creamy, dreamy Thai Basil Peanut Dip!
