In life we’re always told to DO DO DO. This is a list of the ‘don’ts’ you should follow daily to lead a healthier and happier existence overall. Sometimes NOT doing is the best thing for us.
The Don’t List of Life
Don’t live in a black and white world when you can exist in the wonderful gray.
Don’t hum a tune when you can sing out loud.
Don’t question the universe when it only has what’s best for you in store.
Don’t resort to small talk when you could open yourself up to new people, interesting conversations, and challenges to your own thoughts.
Don’t doubt yourself in things you’ve never even attempted before.
Don’t take for granted the people who lift you up, hold them close to your heart.
Don’t ask for things you deserve, demand them.
Don’t break yourself just to fix others.
Don’t go your whole life without watching the sunrise or sleeping under the stars.
Don’t underestimate how much you have to give when your strength is so much greater than you know.
Don’t hide behind your clothes, let them accentuate the beauty that’s already inside you.
Don’t forget to take risks. Playing it safe all the time makes for one boring life.
Don’t let anyone tell you that you’re not good enough or that you can’t do something. Be undeniable and resolute with your self-confidence and inner splendor.
Don’t try to always play the hero. We all need a little rescuing of our own sometimes.
Don’t go a day without laughing or giving someone a hug.
Don’t forget to rest. Your body AND mind deserve a break.
Don’t hold grudges. Especially with those who will be present throughout your entire life.
Don’t think negatively about someone before allowing yourself time to get to know them.
Don’t shut out opportunities because they seem impossible, open your heart, open your mind, and believe in your potential.
Don’t shake hands like a wet fish. Shake with confidence and firmness.
Don’t short-change yourself, you have so much to offer the world.
Don’t think negatively about yourself before allowing yourself time to discover who you truly are.
Don’t strive to be smaller, embrace the space you take up in the world.
Don’t have a bite of cake when you can have the whole slice.
Don’t race through life when you can walk slowly and really take it all in.
Don’t overreact in the moment, take a deep breath and think through your next action.
Don’t waste time skimping on important things, spend a little money to do things the proper way.
Don’t dwell on yesterday, look to tomorrow where a new beginning awaits.
Don’t say I can’t when there is so much ‘can do’ within you.
Don’t wallow through the day and just bide time. Approach every moment with enthusiasm and zeal for what’s to come next.
Don’t be on time, be early.
Don’t wallow in body shame. Accept and embrace it for what it is and all that it does for you.
Don’t just serve yourself, serve others at the same time.
Don’t waste time comparing yourself to others. You’ll never be them and they’ll never be you.
Don’t let others deny your worth, bask in the wonderfulness of all that makes you YOU.
Don’t close your eyes out of fear, open them to the possibilities.
Don’t go to bed angry, you won’t wake up happy.
Don’t go for adequate when you can go for your best.
Don’t stand at the edge, take the leap.
Don’t aim for perfection when being yourself is the ultimate triumph.
Don’t live your life in accordance with what others deem important, follow your own intuition, passions, and perspective.
Don’t be part of yourself…BE THE WHOLE YOU.
No questions today…just tell me one ‘don’t of life’ that YOU believe in!

I absolutely love every part of this. You are so right- everyone always says what to DO, and that’s what we do…we never pause and say no I won’t do that! This list is brilliant (especially the one about being a superhero 😉 . Well done, Kaila! xoxo
Thank you so much Britt! You’re the best!
HI Kaila,
Excellent and inspiring thoughts for a guide to life. Thanks for sharing on Real Food Fridays. Pinned & Tweeted!
So welcome!
Such a great reminder to treasure life and treasure ourselves. I especially love “Don’t doubt yourself in things you’ve never even attempted before.”

These are beautiful, I love the whole idea! I don’t know how you managed to think of so many, but I love it <3
Thank you lovely! Glad you liked the post!
YESSS! I love this!
My biggest don’t has to be don’t EVER think something is impossible – there’s always a way.
Thank you love!
Great list of don’t! You inspire me to write my own. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Thanks love! Let me know if you do! I’d love to see it!
My biggest don’t: ‘Don’t judge people for what you see on the outside. See them as the eternal soul that God made them to be.’ :))) I love that you got my mind thinking about don’ts of life. 🙂
Thanks lovely! Glad you liked the post!
Love this Kaila! I especially like the one about not eating just a bite of cake when you can have the full slice 😉
Thank you so much lovely!! I like that one too. 🙂
Thanks for sharing this – it was inspiring! Blessings, Janet

[…] ‘don’t’ list of life. – What you DON’T need to do, say and […]
“Don’t wallow in body shame. Accept and embrace it for what it is and all that it does for you.”
This is the biggest struggle for me – it’s something I’m always working on. It’s definitely important advice to impart to everyone.
I like the don’t hold a grudge one. That took me too long to learn and I have been so much happier since I stopped doing it.
And don’t go to bed angry – this was a rule in our house growing up, I’m glad my parents made this an important part of life. It taught us to let go of things and be lighter, happier people =)
This is such a great article Kaila – beautifully written. You seem to be living these and I love that, it’s definitely something to aspire to <3
Thanks for sharing at Healthy Vegan Fridays. I'm pinning & sharing. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend.
THANK YOU! I definitely try to live these out. Like you, I still struggle with some, but we are all a work in progress and that’s why I thought it was important to share these. They’re a good reminder for me too!

[…] The Don’t List of Life – YES!!! […]
Some excellent reminders for all of us, I’m sure!
Yes for sure! Thanks for reading!
I love every item on this list. You certainly have learned a lot in your short years. It took me much longer to learn most of these, and some of them I’m still working on. Good for you and thanks for sharing, this is a list I can come back to again and again.
Thank you Nikki! It’s something I look at over and over again too!
Hi Kaila!
I can’t read your post too well b/c the orange share buttons are in the way!
I love your post though…I’m visiting some links. This is my first time on WayWow. Your pic & title drew me in to visit.
I can so identify with a lot of your points…well, all of them really. I hate the weak fishy handshake…inwardly I’m going UGH.
I loved “not going to bed angry b/c you don’t wake up happy.” That is SO true & I’ve done it.
The one about small talk is great! I always say I hate social events where I have to engage in small talk, so I avoid them.
And I’m so guilty of judging negatively before I get to know a person. When I do, my opinion is changed 180.
Sorry about the share buttons…not sure what’s going on! Thanks for reading the post and stopping by!
I love this! Life is too short to do these things!
YES totally agree, Julie!
What a lovely list! 🙂 <3 The more open our minds and hearts are, the better our lives will be!
Thanks Erin!
I LOVE this! We’ve got to live each day to our fullest!! 🙂
YES YES YES.

Thanks friend! I’ll be back!
Kaila, I love your list. Lots of wisdom there. Of course, for my own version of the list I’d have to add the words “once in a great while” to your “Don’t have a 1/2 cup of Ben & Jerry’s, have the whole pint” and “Don’t have a bite of cake when you can have the whole slice.” 🙂 And this from a food blogger! 😀 You might enjoy the post I just put up. “Sugar – Toxin or Treat?” http://www.delightfulrepast.com/2016/09/sugar-toxin-or-treat.html in which I try to tell my readers about my opinion of sugar as someone who definitely uses the stuff!
Thanks I’ll check it out!
