Some people call it Muddy Buddies. Some people call it Monkey Munch. Some people call it Reindeer Chow (this is a new one for me!). And some, including me, know it as Puppy Chow.
But no matter what you call it, this classic crunchy, chocolatey snack mix is DELICIOUS. And today you’re getting a healthy, high protein, vegan, no added sugar version that you can feel good about snacking on whenever a craving strikes.
What is Puppy Chow?
Puppy Chow is a no-bake sweet snack mix made with a simple mix of cereal (mostly Chex!), peanut butter, melted chocolate, and powdered sugar. Sometimes people stir in extra mix-ins like nuts, m&ms, chocolate chips, pretzels, and more.
The melted chocolate and peanut butter coat the cereal and the powdered sugar encases everything in a sweet candy-like treat! Puppy Chow is SO delicious, but definitely not the healthiest of snacks. 😉
Recently, I had a craving for it and decided I would try to make my own homemade Puppy Chow…but with a Healthy Helper twist, of course.
Protein Puppy Chow POPCORN
First, I was going to start with a more traditional cereal like the original recipe calls for, but I realized I had a bag of puffed corn on hand that needed to be used up. So Protein Puppy Chow POPCORN was born.

Without a doubt this recipe is AMAZING. Not only is it crunchy, sweet, and a great alternative to traditional Puppy Chow, my healthier version is:

And SUPER easy to make! This is the perfect no-bake snack recipe to make for quick snacks all week long or even to take to a summer get-together.

Protein Puppy Chow Popcorn
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Total Time: 10 minutes
- Yield: 6 servings 1x
- Diet: Vegan
4 cups puffed corn cereal
1/4 cup No Cow Chocolate vegan protein
2 tbsp powdered monk fruit
2 tbsp peanut powder
3/4 cup sugar-free chocolate chips
1 tbsp coconut oil (optional)
Place puffed corn in a large mixing bowl. In a small bowl, whisk together protein, monk fruit, and peanut powder, set aside.
In a microwave-safe bowl, microwave chocolate chips and coconut oil for a minute. Stir and continue microwaving in 30-second intervals until fully melted.
Pour chocolate over the puffed corn mixture and add protein mixture to puffed corn and toss to coat. Stir with a rubber spatula until evenly coated.
Store in the fridge for up to a week!
