Hey friends! I AM BACK! After a whirlwind 3 days in NYC, I have a lot to share.
Even though I was only there for a short period of time, I got a lot in! Saw some amazing sights, ate some amazing food, and just had a really great time getting away for a bit.
Be prepared. This post is long and picture heavy! But I hope you’ll enjoy reliving my adventure with me. 🙂
Got up early before my flight to fit a quick run in!
I got in to NYC mid morning and took public transportation into the city. I wasn’t able to check in to my AirBnB apartment until 4 so I had to walk around the city with my bags for a while. I took my time and just explored.
[is it really though? 😉 ]
When I was finally able to put my bags down, I headed out to get some dinner and walk through Central Park. I ended up spending a lot of time in Central Park during my stay. Definitely one of my favorite places on earth!
I got dinner at this awesome sushi place called Beyond Sushi! They specialize in creative, vegan sushi! I was in heaven. Also got some hot bar at Whole Foods! 😉
After getting a little lost on the subway, I made it back to my apartment and settled in for the night.
This was my only FULL day in NYC and it was jam-packed.
I woke up early for a 7:30 class at SOULCYCLE! They invited me to come for a complimentary class and I was super excited after hearing so much about it. I went in thinking it was like traditional spinning but, boy, I was wrong. People get REALLY into it and it’s almost like a religious atmosphere. The music, the rhythm, the synchronized movement. It was….different. The music was killer though and the class flew by! I actually like it better than spinning because there was no focus on RPMs or resistance. It was more about moving with the music, feeling your body, and feeding off the energy of others! I also really liked how dark the room was. The candles added some nice ambiance and I liked the instructors’ (yes there were TWO!) use of different lights to match the music. It was pretty cool that there was an arms portion as well! Definitely a full body workout and I was sweating up a storm.
The rest of the morning was spent walking around…
Then I headed to lunch with Caitlin who does PR for a local juice company called Juice Press. This place is AWESOME and I am so happy that Caitlin invited me to lunch.
Juice Press has a number of locations all around the craft freshly pressed juices, smoothies, and vegan foods daily. The location I went to was one of their largest and they had a made to order salad bar.
I did a ‘make your own’ option and got kale, mixed greens, marinated beets, black lentils, peppers, tomatoes, cucumber, basil, carrots, and avocado! They do not skimp on the avocado…they gave me a whole half of one!
I also had like FOUR juices and a shot (it was pure ginger, lemon, and cayenne…SPICY!)! Needless to say I was going to the bathroom the rest of the afternoon….but I couldn’t resist! They were SO GOOD. Caitlin sent me away with a little goodies bag of juices, supplements, and a salad (which I ate on the plane ride home).
Big thanks to Juice Press for treating me and for making healthy, delicious food so accessible to the public!
After lunch, I went back out to explore before heading back to the apartment to get ready for my big night out! I went to see Phantom of the Opera at the Majestic Theatre.
The show was AMAZING. I love the score of Phantom and this was my first time seeing it live. I had awesome seats right in the orchestra. The performance was magical and the actors and actresses were brilliant. I especially like the Phantom….his voice was incredible.
If I lived in NYC, I think I would be broke from going to so many broadway shows (not to mention the expensive cost of living 😉 ).
I got home late and totally crashed after having some snacks from the food haul I picked up around town during the day.
My last (half) day. 🙁
I kept things pretty low-key as I knew I’d have to head to the airport midday. I decided to wake up early and take a run through Central Park before breakfast. I seriously can’t get enough of that place!
I decided to head towards the Jacqueline Kennedy Reservoir. I had no trouble getting there and planned on just running 3 or 4 miles. Well I didn’t count on getting lost on my way back! Oh well. My short morning run turned out to be a little longer than planned…but you can’t beat the free tour of Central Park that it gave me! I would get lost in there any time.
Headed back to the apartment for breakfast. Packed up and walked to Columbus Circle where I took the subway to Tribeca. I got a Starbucks (my THIRD of my trip!….which is a ton for me!) and hung out at Barns and Noble/Whole Foods to catch up on some work before heading to the airport!
1.5 pounds of hot bar goodness…orange kale salad, beet pecan salad, zucchini noodles with marinara, balsamic marinated veggies, black beans, carrot dill salad, steamed veggies, and more!
first time trying one of these!
Overall it was an awesome trip! I’ve been to the city before and have done most of the touristy things, so it was nice to go with no agenda and just do whatever I felt like. The weather was PERFECT and I had such a good time just walking around the city. I tried to use the subway as little as possible and really see the city from my own two feet. That’s how I came across some of the coolest things I saw on my stay. It’s true what people say about NYC…to really experience it you have to walk it.
Now, I am BEAT! My legs are tired and the lack of sleep is definitely catching up with me. But it was so worth it! To tell you the truth, I actually got sick on my way home…threw up in the cab ride to the airport and was weak, dizzy, and light-headed the whole rest of the way. It was SO WEIRD. Thank god I’m feeling a lot better now. I think it was a combo of car sickness, slight dehydration, and probably something I ate as well!
If any of you have any questions about how I went to NYC on the cheap (stayed in AirBnB, got cheap flights, didn’t spend too much on food, discounted theatre tickets, etc.), let me know!
Oh and let me show you some of the foodie finds I picked up…
PS: I got my third tattoo last weekend!
