Wow, have you seen all that snow out there?!
Aside from being freezing, it was nice to get a day off from school because of it. Although I did have to work…..the walk up to work was quite treacherous because it was SO windy! It’s days like today that make me no be able to wait to live somewhere warm and sunny all year round.

In other news, did anyone see the Oprah show this week about veganism? I thought it was pretty interesting and I really like Michael Pollan’s philosophies, so all and all I enjoyed it. One thing that I really took away from the show was the fact that not only should we as a species be eating healthily but we should be eating responsibly. What does this mean, you ask?
Well, here are some of the tips I took away from the show…..
- eat food in their most natural form possible
- eat more plants and less meat, but if you do eat meat, make it organic and free range
- eat in the most responsible way possible to minimize your carbon footprint, to minimize your impact overall, to minimize your effect on animals
- buy local and support fresh from the farm foods
These are just some of the tips that the guests on the show pointed out, but there is definitely a lot more information available on how to revolutionize your diet.
If you hadn’t noticed, I’ve made some changes to my own diet lately, so this show couldn’t have come at a better time. Without even really thinking about it I have been eating a lot less meat lately and a lot more vegetarian based meals. I have never really liked red meat, and with all the information about the inhumane slaughter of animals, it wasn’t difficult at all to phase that out of my diet. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy some meats (mostly poultry and fish…..I LOVE fish!) and usually have those with dinner. But as for the rest of the day I have really been enjoying veggie centered meals. And surprisingly enough, after transitioning to this new eating style, with vegetarian protein sources (beans, legumes, protein powder, dairy<- one HUGE reason I could never, ever be vegan because I love it too much!), I have noticed that I have been building muscle a lot easier than usual and getting a lot more out of my workouts.
Here’s some of the good eats I’ve been enjoying:

It is shows like that and movies like Food Inc. that really make you think about how the choices you make about the food you put in your body affect the world around us.
What do you think about no meat/less meat diets?
Do you agree that the food industry needs to be reformed (i.e. inhumane slaughtering, mass production, hormone injections in meat and other food products)?
Stay tuned for: Updates on all my pages and my first Vlog (video blog)!!!
i love no meat!! i went veggie about 6 months ago and now vegan!! it feels SO GOOD!
I feel that as long as you no meat/less meat diet is healthy, then by all means I support it. 🙂
Yes, I do agree that the food industry needs to be reformed (i.e. inhumane slaughtering, mass production, hormone injections in meat and other food products). They need to treat every living thing with kindness and respect.
Those eats all look so good, and we have a lot in common when it comes to food preferences!! I’ve experimented with going completely vegetarian, but have found that my body functions way better when I eat animal protein, so I stick with poultry and fish. Salmon’s my fave!!! And dairy? I could NEVER give that up.
