My step by step guide to building the ULTIMATE green smoothie bowl! Ingredients, instructions, and tips you need to know to make the a delicious and healthy green smoothie.
A lot of people have asked me over the years how I make the green smoothie bowls that I always feature on Instagram. Well believe it or not, it’s actually super simple to throw together! No magic, unicorn sprinkles, spirulina, or any other crazy ingredients needed. Just simple, whole foods, and a high-speed blender….you’re golden! Or well, green. 😉
Today I am sharing my must have ingredients for making the ULTIMATE green smoothie bowl. Everything you need to create a THICK, creamy, green smoothie that has no taste of spinach at all!
Frozen Bananas & Frozen Spinach
No ice needed in my green smoothie! By using, frozen bananas and frozen spinach, you will get an amazingly creamy, cold, and thick smoothie that doesn’t taste watered down because of the added ice.
Superfoods
I always add turmeric to my smoothies because it’s an easy way to get it in my diet without really having to taste it! Other great additions are: maca powder, chia seeds, hemp seeds, bee pollen, coconut or olive oil, cacao powder, acai, cayenne, flax-seed, ginger, and/or matcha.
I know using gums is somewhat controversial in the healthy living world, but I have found that a little goes a long way for taking a smoothie to the NEXT LEVEL of fluffiness and creaminess. I use no more than a 1/4 teaspoon per smoothie and it creates incredible volume. I’ve never had a better smoothie than when I use guar gum! No iciness at all.
Vitamix Blender
Okay, so you don’t need a Vitamix exactly….BUUUUUT I do highly recommend getting one. Yes, they are quite expensive but also such a good investment. I have had mine for over 6 years now and it still works as good as it did the first day I got it. Plus, their customer support is AWESOME and the blenders can be used for so many other thing aside from smoothies (think soups, nut butters, juices, sauces, flours, and more!). I’ve never had a creamier or smoother smoothie than the ones I make using my Vitamix. There’s never any chunks or clumps and everything purees together perfectly. Also, because it’s so high powered, you can use less liquid and have a more flavorful, less watered-down smoothie.
Toppings Toppings Toppings
Smoothie bowls are where it’s at! You’ll hardly EVER see me actually DRINKING a smoothie. There’s nothing better than pouring a smoothie into a bowl and loading it with some of fun toppings! The contrast of cold, creamy smoothie with crunchy, chewy toppings is just perfect. Here are a few of my go-to toppings….
goji berries, mulberries, or raisins
Amazing Grass Green Superfood powder
But really the possibilities are ENDLESS. Throw on your favorite nuts, seeds, granolas, dried or fresh fruits, or anything else that suites your fancy!
So there ya go! My go-to tips for building the ULTIMATE green smoothie bowl! Let me know if you try any of these tips and feel free to share your own in the comments.
