Another week down! Yay! I mean it’s already March…so we are THAT much closer to Spring and nice weather! Speaking of nice weather…it was FIFTY degrees here today! Seriously this has been the BEST winter I have ever lived through. Only a few major snow incidents. It was totally mild and…tolerable actually! Global warming perhaps? I’ll take it!
While the sunshine was taunting me from outside of school today, I was hard at work catching up on my magazine stash (don’t worry it was a free period ), when I came across a really interesting little tid bit. Health magazine is one of my favorites! I always enjoy their Best Life Now section that shares some fast facts/news about a particular topic…like health, wellness, beauty….you name it!
In the Well Being section, this months theme was staying happy and being positive! (two things I love and strive for everyday!) One thing that caught my eye was the suggestion on how to boost your happiness two fold…each week write down five things you are grateful for. Pretty simple right?! Well that’s what I thought! But in all honesty I think we forget to take the time to appreciate all the wonderful things in our lives. We just become accustomed to living everyday and don’t really take the time to reflect. There are a ton of things I am grateful for in my life! So I think it’s a great idea to start acknowledging them on a more regular basis. According to Health “counting your blessings helps you empathize…you’ll sweat the small stuff and focus on what really matters”. I like the sound of that!
Here are 5 things I am grateful for right now:
They are have been and will always be my greatest support system. Now that high school is coming to an end I have had sometime to think back and consider all they have done for me over the years. There have been ups and downs but they have always stuck by me. They are incredibly strong and truly the best role models I could have.
She is my cheerleader. No matter what she is always there for me with words of encouragement and praise. I know her love is unconditional and I can always count on her to make me feel special and valued even when I am down.
I have been seeing more and more of it lately. The days are getting longer too! Honestly the sun has an incomparable ability to brighten my mood. Something about it just automatically lifts me up! I cannot wait till Summer.
As a fast paced person who is always on the go, I never thought I would truly fall in love with yoga. Sure, I have practiced on and off for a few years, but more out of forcing myself to do it because I know how beneficial it can be. But after my recent struggles and the decision to change a few aspects of my life, I decided to take up the practice in a more dedicated way. So far I have practiced everyday for the past two weeks…I am hooked. I find my self craving challenging stretches and postures and the soothing flow is doing wonders for me. As of right now, I am a total yogi.
Nothing compares to having an animal in your life. They are truly little miracles. Something so perfect and innocent. All they want is love and to give unconditional love out. What could be more incredible. Ella has been such a little trooper lately! Putting up with my long walks, greeting me excitedly whenever I come home, and simply being the best snuggle buddy ever!
Doing this little exercise really makes you realize how lucky you are. I would definitely say its an instant happiness booster! It’s simple stuff like this that really gives you some perspective on your life.
When you’re going through a hard time…try and focus on the positive aspects of your life. It will make everything seem a little less grim and make overcoming a difficult situation a little easier.
Speaking of hard times…another tid bit from the Well Being section mentioned that people who have gone through an impactful, tough time in their lives are more resilient and on the whole STRONGER because of it! It just goes to show you that even positives can come out of rough times. It’s just all in the way you handle the situation. There are things to be gained and learned through every experience.
I am definitely going to try and make this listing of things I am grateful for a regular habit each week! I can share my lists with you if you’d like! Just let me know!!
Right now I feel incredibly content and happy. It’s been a good night.
