Earlier this year, my sister gifted me a small book of words. (This one to be exact!) It was during a rough time when I needed some inspiration, some daily positivity to lift my spirits.
At first glance it didn’t look like much but upon opening its pages, I found a world of positivity, motivation,m and general good will. Every page was featured a bright piece of artwork, unique in its own way, with a quote or words of encouragement woven throughout.
I planned on reading one per day to add a little extra dose of positivity or referring to my favorites when down, but as I turned the pages I couldn’t help but indulge in the magic of this book all at once. I read it cover to cover.
Then I had a thought…”I can’t be the only one who could use a little more positivity in their day…a little daily dose of good!”. That’s when my #DailyDoseofGood project on Instagram started. I’ve seen people do those daily picture challenges or the #100DaysofHappy things, but I decided to create my own little series. I committed myself to sharing once sentiment from the book everyday with my online community. I always find it hard to follow through with social media challenges, but I was convinced that the importance of this was beyond me and that it deserved my full attention.
I can happily report I posted every single day for 198 days consecutively. I stuck to it and I couldn’t be more happy with everything I’ve gotten out of it. Honestly, I didn’t think it would have the impact that it did, but judging from the response of all of you the project was true to its name and did a lot of good.
You would not believe the amount of emails, tweets, comments, and even heart-felt letters I got from people who said they were touched by my daily sharing. A lot of things like “needed this today” or “this came into my life right when I needed it”.
However, even greater than the response I received from the community, was the impact this little project had on ME. I pride myself on staying positive, motivating others, and always being helpful when I can. But I have to admit, sometimes it’s hard. Sometimes I get so caught up in my head, my own struggles, or frivolous things that shouldn’t take so much of my attention, that a forget to just STOP, breathe, and recenter myself in the present moment.
This daily practice really helped with that. No matter what was going on in my day, what was on my mind, or what things made their way on to my to-do list, I took the time to get the #DailyDoseOfGood picture up. Taking that small moment to read over the day’s sentiment, think about it, and share my thoughts with all of you, helped me to apply its message in my own life and really embrace it in a deeper way than I would have ever done otherwise.
I became more reflective. I became more open to new ways of thinking. I gained insight on how words…simply sharing small words on a screen…can really make a difference for those reading them.
I’ve always believed in the power of words and small gestures, but seeing it in action on a daily basis is really miraculous. Now that the series is over (I’ve shared every picture from the book!), I thought it would be nice to revisit some of my favorites from the past 198 days…

Today’s final post is especially pertinent to what I plan to do moving forward…
As I acknowledge the end of this series, I want to also announce the end of the Lend a {Healthy} Hand Project (click the link if you have no idea what I am talking about!). I posted weekly roundups of #HealthyHelp (small acts of kindness) that you all submitted as well as good Samaritan stories from around the world for over 90 weeks, but I think it’s time to bring it to a close. It’s been a while since I’ve done one of those posts and sadly the community has seemed to have lost interest. A disheartening thought since our world can use all the good it can get.
The way I see it though, the culmination of these two Healthy Helper projects does not signal an end, but a new beginning. Just because I won’t be formally doing Lend a {Healthy} Hand anymore or #DailyDoseofGood posts anymore doesn’t mean I am giving up my commitment to helping others, making a difference, and spreading positivity. It’s something I do in my everyday life and it will certainly continue on the blog as well. I am not sure what form it will take yet, but I plan weaving it in wherever I see fit!
In fact, I already have my first project in the works! Starting with my revival of the #ChangeOurFitspo project in the new year. I mentioned that new endeavor here and have already received some submissions…but I would LOVE to get some more. I want to make this round of the #ChangeOurFitspo project even bigger and more impactful than the first! Let’s make this message GO VIRAL, friends. So please, take a fitspo picture you especially dislike, edit its message, and send it to me to be featured in my post! Feel free to submit as many as you want…the more the merrier and the more meaningful!
If you have any questions, PLEASE reach out! And even if you don’t want to submit yourself, you can help the movement by sharing this post.
Thank you for all your support as always! I am so proud of and thankful for the community we’ve created here!
