A round-up of helpful tricks to boost your water intake and stay hydrated all day long!
Although we all get thirsty, not all of us like drinking water. In fact, I’ve met people who claim they “HATE water”.
Crazy, right?!
I drink over a gallon of water a day, so the idea of not liking to drink water seems foreign to me. But I’ll admit, I wasn’t always such a good hydrator. It took a lot of trial and error to figure out ways to get myself to drink more water.
Now that I have my strategies however, I am a FISH! 😉
And none of them are complicated or too out there (hello, Whole Foods asparagus water! HA!).
So if you’re one of those people who finds water bland or find yourself reaching for pop and other sugary drinks more often than not, these tips will help you take your water to the next level!
Add Fresh Fruit
Fresh fruit added to water gives it a hint of flavor without any added sugar (or calories!). My favorites are citrus fruits like lemon, grapefruit, oranges, and limes. But berries, peaches, and even watermelon works great too. I use THIS infusion water bottle to make infused water at home.
Sprinkle in Some Herbs
If you’re not a fruity person, fresh herbs can liven up a full glass of water. Basil, ginger, lavender, and mint work best! You can also make tea with dried herbs that will count towards your daily water goals.
Opt for Sparkling
I personally LOVE drinking sparkling/seltzer water. The bubbles make me feel like I’m drinking something other than water and there are so many flavored options out there now. Not talking about the ones with added sweeteners (like sucralose!), just natural flavors and sparkling water. I like this brand!
Alternate Beverages
If you don’t want to switch to water-based beverages cold turkey or have a pop habit to kick, try alternating beverages. For every pop or energy drink you consume, have a glass of water as well. 1 for 1!
Dilute Other Drinks
So many sugary drinks out there, juices especially, have a lot of room to be diluted. My mom used to do this with orange juice growing up. Half OJ, half water. Same with lemonade or sweetened iced tea. You still get a ton of sweetness and flavor with a lot less sugar!
Add Some Electrolytes
I love sipping on electrolytes all day long! Since I found Ultima Replenisher Electrolyte Mixes my water has been fun and fruity for years. Not sponsored, in any way, I just LOVE their powders. I even got to meet their spokesperson, Dean Karnazes (AKA ULTRAMARATHON MAN!!!), at a conference once. They have flavors like: lemon, raspberry, pink lemonade, grape, orange, blue raspberry, cherry pomegranate, and more.
All only sweetened with stevia!
Use a Special Bottle
The biggest changer in getting myself to drink more water during the day was starting to use a gallon sized water bottle. Yes, it’s huge. Yes, it’s a little cumbersome to carry around. But having my water all in one bottle, helps me stay conscious of how much I’ve already drank and how much I have to go.
Create a Habit
Link drinking water to other activities you do daily! For example, drink a glass of water…
- everytime you go to the bathroom at work
- before every meal
- before and after every workout
- while you’re waiting for your coffee to brew
And if you’re using a smaller bottle, be sure to fill it back up as soon as you empty it!

What’s your favorite way to jazz up your water?

I love infused water, especially in the summer when fresh berries are available. Thanks for sharing these tips on Sunday’s Best.
So welcome! Thanks for stopping by, Rhonda!
I’m absolutely terrible at drinking more water–I need to try adding fruit/herbs!
I hope these tips help you, Farrah!!
This post is so great! I HATE water. I’m surprised I’m still alive with how little I consume. I actually do two of the methods you mentioned, diluting other dribbles and using a special bottle. They have helped quite a bit with increasing my water intake. I’m going to give herbs a try next!
Thank you for stopping by Latoya!! 🙂 So happy the tips are helping!!

Thanks Helen!
My workplace routine is to have a cup of hot peppermint tea immediately after arriving at work. At lunchtime, I take my stainless steel pint cup to the drinking fountain, fill it, drink as much water as I feel like drinking right then (usually about 80% of it), and then refill it as the beverage to go with my lunch. I usually drink from the fountain on my way in and out of the restroom every time, too.
Sounds like you have a solid hydration routine!! That is awesome. Keep it up!
