Another roundup of the shows and movies I am LOVING on Netflix lately. Lesser known series and films that you may have never heard but NEED to check out.
My last roundup of Netflix shows and films that I’ve been watching recently was such a hit with you all that I decided to share some more of my favorites!
Unlike the last roundup, not all of these are Netflix originals but they’re all still highly entertaining and engaging in their own way. I hope you find some new shows, documentaries, or movies that you enjoy!
If Travelers (from my last roundup!) intrigued you, you should definitely check out Continuum. It’s another Canadian sci-fi thriller that explores the complexities of time travel and the lasting effects that present decision can have on the past and future. The series focuses on a conflict between a group of terrorists in the year 2077 and the corporate leaders that rule the future society. In order to further their agenda, the terrorists travel back to the year 2012 accompanied by a police offer from their time that is determined to stop their violent campaign. With 4 seasons of a chaotic struggle for power, you’ll enjoy getting to know the characters and watching as they evolve in their mindsets and intentions.
I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to hop on The 100 bandwagon! But now that I’m here, I’m obsessed. Luckily, all four series are currently streaming on Netflix and the 5th season is coming to The CW in about a month. I am almost fully caught up and every episode just gets better than the next. It’s hard to describe the plot of this one as there are so many plot twists and turns as time goes on. However, I’ll simplify it and say that The 100 follows a group of teens and young adults in a post-apocalyptic world where the remainder of the human race has been living in space since nuclear warfare devastated the earth. When their space home becomes inhabitable as well, 100 are sent down to see whether earth is hospitable again. What ensues is a complex series of trial and tribulations as they attempt to survive, rebuild society, and save their loved ones. 10/10 for sure!
An oldie but goodie! And although I’ve seen every episode of every season, I’ve decided to start rewatching the series from the beginning because it is truly one of my favorite shows. The premise of The Office is simple: a docu-series style comedy that follows the everyday lives of a group of office workers at a paper company in Scranton, PA. However, the cast is absolutely hilarious and the exchanges between them literally make you LOL. So much joy and happiness come from watching this iconic show!
Take Your Pills
This new documentary was super fascinating! Although I’ve been through high school and college, I never gained much insight into the stimulant phenomenon that goes on among young adults. Take Your Pills explores the lengths that our generation are going to in order to be successful, have a leg up on the competition, and be better/smarter/faster/more productive than ever before. Whether it’s teens in school or professional athletes, the stimulant epidemic is wide-spread and causing way more issues than meets the eye. Watch this and become enlightened.
This silly comedy follows the Roses, a wealthy family who recently lost their entire fortune when their business manager failed to pay taxes. Faced with their new misfortune, they are forced to move to Schitt’s Creek, a small town that they purchased years back as a joke. The story revolves around the parents and their two kids as they rebuild their lives from two adjacent motel rooms in the sh*tty town they now call home. Hilarity ensues as they experience a different way of life from their standard luxury and eminence.
The End of the F*cking World
If you like dark comedies, this one is for you! A short 8 episodes, this one season British series is told from the perspective of a teenage boy, James, who has homicidal tendencies. Although he is a self-proclaimed psychopath, James can’t help but fall for his rebellious classmate, Alyssa. When given the chance to runaway with her, he does and the drama that ensues is grim yet comedic at the same time. Definitely a good pick if you’re up for something a bit different!
