Simple tips for keeping your pets happy, healthy, and thriving long-term! Our animals are like our children and we want them to live as long as possible to keep us company.

If you know me, you know my animals are my babies. I love them like family members and their health & happiness is JUST as important to me, if not more important, than my own.
To me, pets (or at least mine!) are like people. They have distinct personalities, likes and dislikes, schedules, routines, wants, needs, etc. Which means they also need to do certain things to stay healthy long-term. Since animals can’t really take care of or fend for themselves, they rely on US, their humans, to make good decisions for their wellness.
Like I said, my dogs (now dog đ ) are my EVERYTHING and I have made it one of my top priorities over the years to do everything I can to keep them healthy. Today I wanted to share some of those choices and daily actions I take to take care of my animals in the best way I know how. You’ll probably realize that a lot of these things are very similar to what we do as humans to take care of ourselves as well!
Spay or Neuter Your Pet
When you bring a new animal into your life, it is of utmost importance to spay (females) or neuter (males) as soon as they are of age. These procedures help prevent a host of health issues for your pets including: uterine infections, breast tumors, testicular cancer, and some prostate problems.
Keep Your Pet Active
Just like humans, animals need regular exercise too! For heart health, for bone and joint health, for mood regulation, and to stay at a healthy weight. Whether you take your dog for an hour walk everyday or spend 20 minutes using a laser pointer to play with your cat, it’s crucial to make sure your pets are staying active and using some of that pent-up energy they have…especially if they are indoor animals only.
Bathe and Groom Your Pet Regularly
Dog and cats don’t need to be bathed quite as often as people, but that doesn’t mean grooming them is any less important! Pets get dirty, have dry skin, and can get matted hair so it’s important to give them baths and do proper grooming on them, depending on the breed. Plus, a clean pet is a happy pet, in my opinion!
Take Your Pet to Scheduled Vet AppointmentsÂ
Pets needs check-ups, shots, and medication (sometimes!) just like humans. Make sure your pet is up to date on all their vaccinations and that they are going to the vet yearly….especially as they age. (Feeding your animals healthy food can reduce the number of vet visits they’ll need over their lifetime…more on that below!)
Feed Your Pet Healthy, Wholesome Snacks
The number one thing I’ve noticed with pets, my own and others, is that when you feed them treats and snacks made from high quality ingredients they do much better in terms of mood, health, and energy than when they are fed overly processed foods. Unfortunately, some of the big brands in the pet product industry have monopolized the market because their treats are CHEAP, and thus, devoid of a lot of the key nutrients that animals need to be healthy and satisfied. If you read the ingredient panel on many âbig brandâ pet food brands, you are likely to find questionable ingredients like meat by-products, refined grains like corn and wheat, and unnecessary additives like salt and sugar for flavor. These ingredients can cause weight gain, constipation, and other overall health problems for your animal. Basically cheap, processed snacks = higher vet bills in the future. Not worth saving a few bucks in the present in my opinion!
Luckily, there are some companies out there producing pet products that’s are made with quality ingredients and compounds like CBD to help keep your pet healthy and happy long term. Lazarus Naturals has a line of CBD-infused treats as well as CBD tinctures
Did you know CBD works in your pet’s endocannabinoid system to help support normal joint mobility and soothe nerves? With Ella getting up there in age (she’ll be 12 next year!), joint health and mobility are more important for her than ever.
I’ve started to incorporate Lazarus Naturals products into her daily routine and so far she LOVES them. Here are some of the products we’ve been using:
CBD Dog Treats Calm + Vitality | These treats are Ella’s new FAVORITE! They are made with sweet potato and reishi + lion’s mane mushrooms for vitality. She’s been a little extra anxious and hyper lately without Olive around and one of these treats immediately helps her wind down. They’re also grain-free which I LOVE because she already eats a grain-free diet. And just check out these high quality ingredients:
She also loves the Salmon Flavored Calm + Mobility CBD Dog Treats made with wild salmon oil and green-lipped mussels for join mobility.
Wild Salmon Flavored Calming Pet CBD Oil Tincture | One of Ella’s favorite foods is salmon so this tincture is SO easy to give her. She’s usually horrible with taking liquid medicines of any kind, but she thinks this CBD calming tincture is a treat! Not only does it calm her but it’s also FULL of Omega-3s from the wild salmon oil which helps support her immune system, heart, and coat. Her coat has never been softer or shinier than it is since incorporating this oil daily!
Lazarus also has a Sensitive Pet CBD Oil Tincture that is THC-free and also FLAVORLESS for pets that may be a little more particular about tastes.
Overall, I love being able to bolster Ella’s diet with these additions from Lazarus Naturals.

Awww thank you!! My parents had a Samoyed before I was born. They are SO fluffy and sweet!!
I didnât think you mentioned this, but clipping nails is very important, too. My dog and I walk 5-8 miles every day. She eats grain free organic kibbles every day. I actually make her treats!!
Nice! Yeah my dog has really flourished on a grain-free diet as well.
