Starting your morning with good habits, sets you up for success all day long. Unfortunately it’s easy to get in ruts and routines of not-so-healthy behaviors first thing in the morning. Think about it… You’re tired, you probably have a full day of work ahead, and depending on your decisions last night, you may not be feeling so hot!
Instead of succumbing to the morning malaise, you can make a few small changes to your morning rituals that will set you up for a full day of heathy choices.
Today I’m sharing the 5 things I do each and every morning to get my day started on the right foot. I’ve talked about simple things you can every day to be healthier all around before, but I’ve never focused specifically on the morning time. It’s important to start making smart choices first thing because habits are cemented early on in the day. What you do in the morning influences what you do the rest of the day. Try one (or all!) of these eight smart a.m. tips for a healthier you. For example, if wake up late, skip breakfast, or get super angry because of traffic, it’s more likely you’ll be late for work, choose an unhealthy lunch, and be in a bad mood later on.
But don’t worry! It’s not too late. You can change the tone of your mornings (and your whole days!) with these 5 easy tips for a healthier you.
Set Your Alarm 15 Minutes Early
Save yourself the stress of rushing around in the morning by setting your alarm just 15 minutes earlier than the time you have to get up. This little cushion of time ensures you’ve given yourself a big enough window to wake up slowly, calmly, and relaxed. It allows you to take your time getting ready, fulfill your morning duties, and head into the day with a fresh, positive perspective. There’s nothing like having to scurry around in the morning, speed through traffic, and just barely make it to work on time to leave you in a bad mood for the day! So avoid that chaos with this simple wake up tip.
Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate
First thing I do when I wake up? Drink a HUGE glass of water. Not only am I thirsty after a night without fluids, but also drinking water first thing is a great way to rehydrate (you’re actually slightly dehydrated after a night of sleep!), boost your metabolism, flush out any lingering toxins, and get all your bodily functions running for the day. Drinking a tall glass of H2O is like putting the key into the ignition of your body and turning it!
Take Your Vitamins
Seems simple right? Just pop a few vitamins and you’re done. But if you’re not taking the right vitamins for YOU, then you’re probably not getting much out of them. Sneak in Some Morning Movement
Whether it’s stretching, yoga postures, or 10 minutes of core work like me, getting a little activity into the first hour of your day is a great way to get blood and endorphins flowing. Movement not only wakes up your body, but it wakes up your mind as well! Think of it as your caffeine free cup of coffee in the morning! Energizing, grounding, and even mind centering! Plus you’ll feel a sense of pride for getting part of your workout in first thing.
