Whether you’re a veteran runner or a newbie to the sport, participating in a race is an experience like none other. Fun, rewarding, and great for making new friends! Find out why YOU should sign up for a race TODAY.
Running is my sport. Ever since I started in middle school cross-country over 10 years ago, I have loved running more than any other type of movement/activity.
Sure I was involved in other sports over the years (softball, volleyball, etc.), but running was the one thing I always came back to. Whether it was for competition or just for pleasure, running is something I ALWAYS love when I’m doing it and miss when I’m not.
I’ve definitely taken running for granted during my years with the sport, but the times I haven’t been able to do it have reaffirmed my love of it. Running is my escape, running gives me peace of mind. Running makes me feel alive.
If I had my way, I would make everyone try going for a run at least once in their life. I believe in the power of running THAT much. It changes bodies and minds.
Of course not everyone enjoys running…and that is totally fine! But I always say that signing up for an actual race may change your mind.
There’s something about picking an event, setting a goal, training, and then finally stepping up to the starting line that is unlike anything in the world.
I’ve experienced it many times and today I am hoping to encourage you to do the same at least once!
Today I am sharing my Top 4 Reasons to Sign Up for a Race!
Whether it’s your first or your 81st…there is nothing like race day!
1. Camaraderie
There is nothing like the running community. Even if you know no one else at the race, you will feel at home amongst hundreds, or even thousands, of other from all walks of life that have different reasons for being there, different goals, and different expectations. The coolest part is that you’re all going to experience the same challenge and in the end you’re all winners because the only real race is against yourself.
I’ve met some of my best and closest friends thru the running community. It’s amazing how a relationship can be sparked simply from the “we’re all in this together” vibe at the beginning of a race.
2. A Unique Sporting Experience
One thing about running a race that is unlike any other sporting event is that people of any age, gender, race, and experience level can all participate in t he same event as peers. You’re not able to play a game of baseball against the NY Yankees, but you sure as hell can line up behind Shalane Flanagan and follow in the footsteps of elites from all over the world. That’s pretty awesome if you ask me.
3. Pure Fun
Exercise gives you feel good endorphins as it is. Combine running with excited, enthusiastic people, good food, music, a festival like atmosphere, and you’ve got yourself a recipe for a good time!
You can’t help but feed off the energy of those around you and SMILE.
4. Empowerment
Even if you’re grimacing thru the last mile or unsure if you can finish, there is a sense of self-pride and accomplishment after finishing a race of ANY distance. Whether you’re a newbie runner or a race addict, crossing a finish line is a moment of success that is yours forever. The physical feat can never be taken away from you and the mental effort makes you even more capable of conquering new goals (in any aspect of life).
So…have I convinced you yet? I sure hope so because this year I have the honor of being a ZOOMA Race Ambassador and I’d love to have you join me at one of their spectacular races around the country.
