Did you know that I don’t even store music on my iPhone anymore? Nope, not a track. I had a bunch of playlists on there last year, but I decided they were taking up way too much room and that I really never listened to them. I love music, but the type of media that truly has my heart is PODCASTS. If you’ve been reading for a while, then you know I am a podcast connoisseur. Seriously, if you ever need recommendations, hit me up!
I use the Instacast app and I currently subscribe to over 24 podcasts….all of which I keep up with regularly. I just love them! They’re so informative and I really have expanded my world view and knowledge base by listening to podcasts over the last few years.
I listen to a number of comedy podcasts (You Made it Weird, The Nerdist, etc.), a bunch from NPR (Ted Talks Radio Hour, Pop Culture Happy Hour, etc.), a lot of story podcasts (This American Life, The Moth, RadioLab, etc.), some crime centered ones (i.e. Criminal, Serial, Undisclosed etc.) and some awesome health and wellness shows too (The Jillian Michaels Show, Finding Our Hunger, Mind Body Musings, etc.).
I am always on the look out for new, up and coming shows in each of these different categories to check out. When I find one I like, I always start from the very beginning and listen to their episodes in chronological order from start to present. So when I find a new-ish show that I’m interested, it’s nice to be able to catch up pretty quickly on all their latest episodes!
Recently, three health and wellness podcasts have really captivated my attention. If you’re in the market for a new long run listen or just a little daily motivation to live healthier…these are for you!
1. #WYCWYC
From the genius ladies behind the #WYCWYC movement (and the BOOK that was just released!!), the #WYCWYC podcast is all about doing what you can when you can…healthy living on your terms. Carla (one of my all time favorite bloggers and online ‘friends’ in general!) and Roni are so insightful. Whether they’re sharing anecdotes from raising their kids, taking part in some coffee talk about the latest health craze, or giving out tips on how to make exercise work for YOU, they are amazingly personable and friendly throughout their chats. You feel like you’re talking to a good friend of yours and every thing they put forth is so relatable. They are shining examples of the fact that healthy living is not one size fits all and that being perfect is overrated….being YOU reaps so many more rewards.
This show has been around for a few years now, but I was introduced to Shawn Stevenson when he was on the Mind Body Musings podcast with my friend Madelyn Moon. Shawn is an all around health guru. With his partner in crime (and producer!) Jade, he tackles everything from proper sleeping habits and chronic diseases to advice on fending off sugar craving and getting inflammation under control. You name it, he’s got a show about it. Shawn is a one of the most talented nutritionists I’ve ever come across and he is truly helping people incorporate sustainable, healthy actions into their lives. I love listening to his balanced take on everything from fitness to diet. He also often brings on great, knowledgable experts from all areas of the health and fitness world!
3. PROyou
This baby is BRAND NEW. And it happens to be the first health and fitness podcasts on my favorite podcast network, Nerdist. Even though they’ve only done a few episodes so far, I’m hooked. The hosts Tom and John are fitness experts and personal trainers with years of experience in the business. But their expertise isn’t what draws me in, it’s their positive, motivational attitudes. They live by the name of their podcast and promote making PRO YOU choices in your everyday life. What do they mean by that? Well, making small decisions everyday to live healthier, be more mindful, and strive to live your best life possible! They believe in creating balance in one’s life through consistency and awareness. They allow people to write in and call in questions on a daily basis so their shows are always very personal and you can tell how eager they are to truly help people.
Honestly, podcasts like these save me some days. They give me a chance to turn off my own thoughts for a bit and plug into something that’s not only informational, but motivational. I take so much away from the words of these wise people and I’m thankful that they’re out there producing such quality media FOR FREE.
If you haven’t tried podcasts before, I highly encourage it. I’ve found so many new things I’m interested in and I’m really able to apply a lot of what I learn to my own life.
If you ever need any suggestions, I’m your girl! I love getting others hooked on my favorite shows. 🙂

I love podcasts too and have been looking for new ones blindly without a lot of luck so this was really timely! Thanks, going to check them out right now!
Yay! Glad I could help! Let me know if you need more suggestions!
I LOVE podcasts! I only tend to listen to music at home, but every time I step out of the house it is only podcasts. I will laugh and people stare at me but I don’t care! It is a party in my ears 😉
Yes! I always assume people think I’m crazy for laughing while I have my earbuds in. I can only imagine what they think I’m listening to! LOL
THANK YOU SO SO SO SO SO SO SO MUCH for including us!!!
I love the podcasting but need more to listen to myself and am adding THE HEALTH BEET.
Gonna check that one out too!
Typically I listen to Shaun t a lot.
Is this Shawn guy a holistic nutritionist?
Yes he is! He is also an RD!
I used to listen to lots of podcasts, but I stopped last year. I have not been able to find time to follow them all. I will try checking the ones you mentioned.
Thanks for sharing!
Haha! I am pretty much obsessed! I have even caught up on all the episodes of the ones I subscribe to. Crazy podcast lady here.
Love podcasts. I use them for running all the time, and when I can’t sleep and night, trips in the car etc. I like Marathon Training academy and all the Stuff You Should Know, Stuff You Missed in History, Stuff Mom Never told You, story ones etc. I will check these new ones out!
Yes, when I was able to run, they are all I would listen to!! I listen to them on walks now and when I drive, grocery shop, or do chores! 🙂
These are great recs! Thanks!! I didn’t even know about Instacast and it’s being downloaded right now ;). I used to listen to Podcasts a lot more when I had a 1+ commute but now that it only takes me about 10 minutes to get to work (hallelujah!) not so much. Looking forwarding to checking these out!
Instacast ROCKS! It’s so much easier than the actual podcast app. And it’s got some cool features!
Ahh perfect! I love listening to podcasts (and wrote a similar post today with my favs, haha!) and am always looking for new ones. I’ve started to listen to them now when I get ready for work in the morning, so by the end of the week I’ve already listened to all the new episodes of my favs. I will check these out!
Ooh I’ll have to check out your post! Great minds think alike! 🙂
Thanks for the suggestions. I need something to replace Jillian Michaels. Her podcast has gone weird….
Haha! Yes! And that whole controversy with Janice? What the heck happened there!?
